The idea of turning windows into working power plants has just moved a little bit closer to reality.

Professor Jacek Jasieniak of Monash University's Department of Materials Science and Engineering is leading a team of researchers from the ARC Centre of Excellence in Exciton Science that has developed perovskite cells with a conversion efficiency of 15.5 percent that let through more than 20 percent of visible light.

The amount of visible light passing through the cells is remarkably now reaching glazing levels, increasing their potential for use in a wide range of real-world applications. This enhances the stability of solar windows while allowing more natural light in.
