According to Euronews, a 900 MW "water battery" that cost Switzerland €2 billion and took 14 years to build is currently functioning. In the Swiss Alps, the battery is situated around 600 metres (about 2,000 feet) below. 🇨🇭

Since the world is concentrating on using renewable energy sources, there is also a need to store this energy, which is produced sporadically depending on the time of day and the weather. Dense battery packs are a solution to this issue, but mining for minerals like nickel, cobalt, and lithium, which are needed for these storage devices, is not environmentally friendly.
