Crypto or not? Russian officials comment on the future of digital ruble

The digital ruble, a prototype of which will be revealed as soon as this year, is expected to receive separate legal regulation. The detailed amendments will reportedly be adopted after the experiment, scheduled for 2022.

Unlike conventional digital currencies, the digital ruble will be used as legal tender, according to Alexey Minaev, the deputy director of the Department for Digital Economy Development in the Ministry of Economic Development, as quoted by Izvestia.

Minaev said that this form of money has little to do with cryptocurrencies.

Development of the legal basis will start in January 2022, and amendments will be proposed to at least eight laws and five codes, the head of the Committee on Financial Markets in the Russian State Duma, Anatoly Aksakov, told the media.

Bitcoin Rockets to ALL TIME High as Mastercard Embraces Crypto in Asia Pacific (Report)

Bitcoin has reached a new record high, soaring past the $68,000 mark for the first time ever Tuesday – while the total market capitalization of all crypto tokens breached $3 trillion on Monday.

Reaching an all-time high of $68,382, bitcoin rose by nearly 5% during Asian trading hours on Tuesday. As of 05:30 GMT, the rally slowed, but the cryptocurrency was still trading close to the $68,000 mark.

Mastercard has launched crypto-linked payment cards in the Asia-Pacific. The cards will enable consumers and businesses across the region to instantly convert cryptocurrencies into traditional fiat money for payments, the company said in a statement on Monday. (CoinDesk)

Mastercard also said last month it was working on ways to allow merchants and banks in the US to build cryptocurrency into their offerings with digital asset platform Bakkt.
