🍁 this Saturday, September 23, is the day of the autumnal equinox, otherwise known as Mabon, one of the eight festivals of the Wiccan Wheel of the Year 🍁
This day marks the beginning of autumn in European tradition, as from now on days will be shorter than nights, and nature will slowly be falling asleep until awaking once again on the spring equinox in March. This celebration brings forth the themes of sharing and generosity, since it’s the time of harvesting 🌾
So, starting today, take some time to appreciate what you have and share your gratitude with your loved ones. Bake a pie (charlotte is the classic meal of Mabon) and pour some wine/cider to celebrate (if you’re old enough to drink) 🥮

personally, I need more festivals in my life, so this year I’ve decided to follow each of the celebrations of the Wheel of the Year, so we’ll see what will come out of it 🌾
and, honestly, some of the reasons I’m so excited are because it’s also the day the Sun moves from Virgo to Libra (yay!) finishing its opposition with Pisces Neptune AND because the next holiday is Samhain/Halloween, which is one of my favorite holidays 👻🎃

the name Mabon comes from the Welsh myth about a kid who was kidnapped and taken to the underworld, but was rescued — a story similar to that of Persephone
mythologically, this is the story about light coming out of this world — and darkness taking over, that’s why our ancestors used to ask Gods for protection during this time
I actually believe they were onto something, because winter months are always challenging for me emotionally. So, I decided that this time I’ll ask for protection, too. Sounds grand, and it’s something I’ve never done before — at least, not this way, so I’m very curious 👀
Besides creating an altar with hand-picked acorns (they grow near where I work!) and other items I listed in the post, I ordered candles that are charged for protection and connecting with ancestors 💞
The candles are made by wonderful Maria, who once have done a reading for me — and whose affirmation I still use from time to time (it actually helped me relax and trust the process more)
I’m very big on rituals, and I believe in the power of intentions, so I’m really looking forward to seeing these candles — and showing it to you all, of course!!
