Agency and adulthood
We grow up thinking adults know what they are doing, then we discover most of them don't. This creates disillusionment that, for many, is addressed by replacing your parents with different figures: your boss, civic institutions, "experts", or maybe a political leader.
Political agency starts when you realize that people in charge, people or organizations in a position of power, are not able to make your life better, either because they don't want to or simply they can't. Nobody is coming to save you, so you need to act.
The election of far-right leaders throughout the West in the last 10 years has been such a moment for many people: institutions and elites are not able to maintain the current order. They can't even preserve themselves, let alone your freedom.
The past few weeks are repeating this pattern for a much larger crowd: NATO is failing, EU and USA will eventually enter a conflict, and staying put, monitoring the situation while the "experts" play their game is not enough.
Nobody is in charge anymore: it is time for you to become an adult.

How to avoid crying when chopping onions
1) Have a sharp knife (unless you're Italian)
2) Wet your knife, cutting board and cheeks to bind
3) Cut under the vent, or with a fan pointing sideways
OR
4) Keep blowing on the onions while you're cutting or near the board to blow the sulfuric acid droplets away from your face
