Workers of @LWC_BLN are going on a historic strike today! This is the largest platform strike ever in Germany!
Supporters, journalists and politicians will gather from 13:00 onward at Rotherstr. 17 close to the Warschauerstr. U-Bahn.
The strike is called by the Food Beverage Union (NGG; Nahrung-Genuss-Gaststätten) together with our long-time partners, Lieferando Workers Collective @LWC_BLN.
From TikTok, Amazon warehouses to Lieferando... sub-contracting is a union-busting tactic by employers to undermine worker rights and obfuscate power-relations. This long standing issue must be resolved both in the streets and legislatively.

Federal Minister of Labour Bärbel Bas: UberEats, Wolt and Lieferando should directly employ platform workers.
"When I employ people directly...then I also have an obligation as an employer to comply with all national laws." That is why the Federal Ministry of Labour is now considering introducing the direct employment requirement instead of subcontracting when implementing the EU Platform Work Directive.

Since January, Thoughtworks Germany, a global software consultancy, has motioned to fire Works Council members Olesya, Mohamed, and Charlotte. Three terminations in three months. Mohamed was suspended without pay since April.
The reasons for termination vary: GDPR, commentary on weapons industry and U.S. war crimes, Palestine solidarity in another.
The common theme is retaliation against tech workers organizing in their workplace.
On 27 May, the Berlin Labour Court holds the first hearing in Olesya's case. These cases will decide whether companies in Germany can fire Works Council members for speaking up.
