How to Create a Responsive Screen That Supports All Devices in Flutter?

If you're developing an app with Flutter and want it to look great on all devices, whether small mobiles, tablets, or even large screens, you must rely on responsive design. In Flutter, you have several ways to achieve this easily and professionally.

1. Use MediaQuery
MediaQuery provides information about the current screen size and helps you adjust elements based on height and width.

2. Use LayoutBuilder
LayoutBuilder allows you to divide the screen based on available dimensions, which is very useful for changing the design according to the screen size.

3. Use the ScreenUtil library
ScreenUtil is a very powerful library for designing responsive interfaces easily. You need to add the library to your project:

4. Use Flex Widgets: such as Row and Column with Expanded or Flexible widgets to organize elements.

Always try to use dynamic ratios or values โ€‹โ€‹instead of fixed numbers.

Test your app on different screen sizes using Device Preview.

Responsive design not only improves the experience, but also reflects the professionalism of the app. Whether you use MediaQuery, LayoutBuilder, or a library like ScreenUtil, the important thing is to ensure that your app will look its best on all devices! ๐Ÿš€

Do we need daily meetings?

They say programmers are too lazy to move tickets on the board. Like, I have already opened a pull request in GitHub, what else do you want from me? And the ticket is still hanging in TODO, moving between the columns only on daily calls. However, as a team member, the developer has a responsibility to the team. Creating clarity, transparency, and trust in the development process โ€” all that. Being a programmer is not just about writing code. It's about helping and mentoring others, figuring out business requirements, getting into context and following the processes.

What did you do today?
It should be clear by looking at our TODO board. Here it is, it has all my tasks on it, the tasks I plan to do, here are the tasks done, and so on. The manager at any time should be able to go in and look at your board and see what you're working on. They should not kick you or figure it out on a call.

What are you planning to do today?
The problems with this question are the same as in the paragraph above. In general though, if there's not enough clarity, we can agree: the higher the ticket on the board, the faster I'll start working on it. That is, from top to bottom comes the order of how I plan to work. This, by the way, is where the manager can get involved. For example, if it is more important to work on task A, they will come and themselves will move it above task B. And, of course, notify the one in charge. Again, everything is autonomous.

Is there anything blocking you?
"No. Otherwise I would have come in and said so," should be the answer to that question. Otherwise, does it mean that the developer has been sitting idle for a while? Or couldn't work on some task, but didn't raise it? It's better to raise it this right away: you go to the person responsible for this part of development, to a colleague, or to the manager, if you don't know where to go. And just say so. ยซI can't do X because of Yยป. This will speed up both the developer and the team as a whole.

If you put it that way, daily meetings aren't necessary at all. Yes, it's a way to get in sync, but is that sync necessary? I may not care what Jon does and did, and Jon may not care about my part of development. At the very least, I can go and look at Jon's board myself. Or write to him. It takes only a minute to reply in Slack. Also, you can reply when it's convenient for you, if it's not urgent. It is surely less time spent than if you join the daily.

A daily meeting is more about helping the manager to keep progress up-to-date. But if we developers keep the board clean and up-to-date and raise problems in time, we won't really need those kicks and questions. Autonomy is a thing, after all.
