That feeling when the code you let slide, telling yourself, "I'll just merge it now and refactor it later" - comes back to haunt you, bringing a massive issue along with it. ☹️
Ask Google's AI Mode who won the 2020 election and it may not say
Instead of naming Joe Biden, Google's AI search mode told users to check the Federal Election Commission's official results. Asked about 2016, it answered right away: Donald Trump.
Google's standalone Gemini app, ChatGPT and Claude all named the 2020 winner in tests by Ars Technica. AI Mode often gave the answer when asked a second time, and answered straight away when Ars checked from other countries via VPN.
Google says it's fixing it: "Our systems verify election responses using news articles or AP data for recent elections, and historic records for older ones. There was a technical gap with 2020 – same is true for 2022 Senate races."
The US midterms are on Nov. 3.

In any case, you don't throw away a Samsung phone just because you bought an iPhone. !!!!!! 🙃

⏰ Amazon's new Alexa clock wakes you when your sleep is lightest
Echo Time senses lighter sleep with no wearable and wakes you within 10 to 60 minutes of your set alarm, while the screen brightens like a sunrise. It costs $199.99.
It's one of five Alexa+ devices Amazon showed on Wednesday:
• Echo Dot, $99.99: now also a smart home hub and a Wi-Fi extender for up to 1,000 sq ft
• Echo Studio with Home Camera, $249.99: recognizes things you hold up, like a cereal box to reorder
• Alexa Photo Frame, from $199.99: pulls pictures from Amazon Photos on its own
• Echo Show 16, from $499.99 on preorder: a 16-inch screen with Fire TV built in
Some features need Alexa+, which comes with Prime.

Code Rushing
You have likely heard about this. Sometimes, whether due to a lack of diligence or the pressure of an approaching deadline, we rush straight into writing code just to get something functional. We jump directly to coding without fully grasping the problem at hand - this is what is known as "code rushing."
This is a common pitfall, especially for beginners. Before you start writing code, it is best to take the time to thoroughly analyze and break down the problem you are trying to solve.

🎯 System Design in Mobile Programming
When we say System Design in the mobile world, it means designing the structure and architecture of the entire system; from data management to security and scalability.
1️⃣ Mobile Application Architecture
📱 Client-Side (App Layer):
Internal Architecture:
MVP, MVVM, MVI or Clean Architecture
State Management:
(ViewModel in Android, ObservableObject in SwiftUI)
Internal Cache:
SQLite, Realm, Room, CoreData
Dependency Injection:
(Like Hilt/Dagger or Koin)
🌐 Backend Integration:
API: REST or GraphQL
Authentication: (OAuth2, JWT)
Sync & Offline-first
2️⃣ Data Flow
🔄 Request/Response Cycle:
Repository → API Client → Server
📦 Offline Handling:
First, the data is stored in the Local DB, then it is synced with the server.
⚡️ Real-time Updates:
WebSocket, Firebase Realtime DB, gRPC
3️⃣ Scalability & Performance
The app should be scalable for millions of users 🚀
Backend → Load Balancing
Use CDN for images and files
Pagination and Lazy Loading on the app side
Push Notification with FCM/APNs
4️⃣ Security
Encryption (SharedPreferences/Keychain) 🔐
HTTPS + SSL Pinning
Token Refresh Handling
Avoid Reverse Engineering (ProGuard, R8, Obfuscation)
5️⃣ Observability
Logging: (Crashlytics, Sentry)
Analytics: (Firebase, Mixpanel)
Feature Flagging
for gradual rollout
📌 Simple example: Reservation app
1. App:
User searches
2. API Gateway:
Request goes to microservice Search
3. Search Service:
Fetches data from
DB (Elasticsearch / PostgreSQL)
4. Caching Layer:
And Redis or Room returns frequently used results quickly
5. App:
Shows results and stores in Local DB for offline use
✨ Summary:
System design means thinking about the entire app lifecycle; from the mobile-side code structure to server-side communication, security, performance, and user experience.

OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra just improved another AI by editing its brain. Literally.
MIT researchers gave Astra access to the weights of Alibaba’s Qwen model and asked it to fix a problem: the model kept getting stuck in repetitive reasoning loops instead of finishing its answers.
Rather than retraining Qwen, Astra figured out which weights were causing the issue and changed them directly.
The results are pretty wild:
• Only 0.016% of the model’s weights were modified
• Its MATH-500 score jumped from 7.9% to 48.1%
• Instruction-following improved from 21% to 62.3%
• The share of math responses hitting the output limit dropped from 93% to 33%
The researchers call this weight-space programming. Essentially, one AI edits the internal parameters of another AI to change how it behaves.
It didn’t work nearly as well on Google’s Gemma 3, so this is far from a universal fix.

Still, think about what happened here. An AI identified a problem inside another neural network and fixed it by changing a tiny fraction of its numbers. No additional training required.
If this approach becomes reliable, fixing AI models might eventually look more like debugging software than training a new model from scratch.
And that’s a pretty strange thought.
