🚨 LLM Agents Can Be Easily Hijacked via the Open Web - Columbia University Study
Researchers at Columbia University have shown that AI agents based on large language models (LLMs), especially those with web access are highly vulnerable to simple but dangerous attacks.
🧠 How it works:
1. An attacker places a malicious link on a popular website (e.g., Reddit).
2. The AI agent follows the link during a web task.
3. Hidden instructions are triggered, causing the agent to:
• Reveal sensitive information
• Send phishing emails
• Perform unsafe actions without detection
⚠️ In controlled tests, the attack worked 100% of the time.
That means even low-effort exploits can lead to serious consequences for users and companies relying on AI agents for automation.
