I thought making his body an exclamation mark would be a good idea because the idea of an error in a long process that takes hours on its own is frustrating.

His arms being loading bars. Thinking how frustrating it is when a Loading screen is just stuck and you don't know what's the problem

His head is just an error pop-up.
That's annoying too

I had the idea of what if he's a phobia turned into a nightmare?

Humans fear time because it passes and they're not immortal they'll die, all of us will. The thought of your body getting weaker as you reach a certain age living with the fear of a heart attack, or a teen scared of growing up. Missing school, deadline, last minute of a difficult exam..

That makes him lean into nightmare more. He'll never admit it but he'd rather be a dream but because people mostly fear time passing he has no choice because what's the point of trying to be a dream when all people think of you as a reminder of dying someday.

He mostly works with adults and teens as kids don't have a good grasp on what time is.
