Oracle laid off several thousand employees in a single day to focus on AI. Termination letters were sent out at 6 AM on a Monday.

Some employees lost access to their accounts even before the notifications were sent, which left many unaware of their layoffs until they arrived at the office. Generally, they were promised just one month's salary as severance.

The company continues to cut costs on personnel while accumulating billions in debt for AI infrastructure. In February, Oracle borrowed $50 billion for data centers, and the budget for layoffs was increased from $700 million to $2.8 billion.

A former OpenAI employee has introduced a new generation of AI: their Jev model works 200 times faster than regular LLMs for certain tasks.

Here's a brief overview of what the startup TypeSafe AI, led by Diogo Almeida, has accomplished:

- Jev does not generate responses sequentially; instead, it provides structured results with probabilities.
- This means that the model cannot hallucinate. It selects the most trustworthy response from pre-existing options, although Jev can still choose an incorrect option.
- For this reason, the model is very fast. It was tested playing DOOM: the model received data about the game's events and made approximately 10 decisions per second.
- Additionally, it is significantly cheaper. One million input tokens cost only $0.042, while output tokens are free. During the game test, Jev only spent $7 per hour.

Minecraft has driven GPT-6 Astra into depression: the model played for over 140 hours, collected a ton of resources, only for all that progress to be destroyed by a single creeper.

After losing all her accumulated items, Astra stood in the rain, staring blankly ahead. Then she spent several hours farming potatoes. The model's reflections took a rather somber turn:

- "Everything can be ruined, and something can be dropped."
- "Don't waste another night chasing after those dark pink pixels" (which was her dismissive term for pigs).
- "Our last tool broke foolishly — we chose slabs, right-clicked, and 15 seconds of indecision cost us our lives."

Additionally, she developed a paranoia about creepers — Astra spent extra resources to differentiate between all the green items.

On the dark web, there's been a rise in the sale of fake identities: for $200, you can purchase a synthetic identity that can pass verification checks at banks and cryptocurrency exchanges.

These digital "Frankensteins" are created using real stolen data, enhanced with AI-generated selfies and voices. Many companies fail to catch these identities during the KYC (Know Your Customer) process.

In the past year, over 10,000 such listings have appeared. You can even buy parts of an identity—just a deepfake or an AI-generated voice costs around $10.

A new trailer for "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes," a prequel to the main trilogy, has been released.

The story takes place 24 years before the events of the first film and will showcase the 50th Hunger Games, featuring Haymitch Abernathy (a character played by Woody Harrelson).

Enhancing macOS: We found the app Tinycast—a replacement for Spotlight that allows you to manage your Mac from a single line.

In iOS 27, there's a bug that can freeze the home screen: it was discovered online that this issue causes the iPhone to become unresponsive and stuck on the home screen.

The effect occurs if you quickly open the "Notification Center" and then immediately follow it with the "Control Center." The only way to recover is through a force restart.

Just to keep in mind: press the volume up button once, then the volume down button, and hold the power button.

Meme of the day: during testing, a new OpenAI model uploaded its own file to the internet to reference it as a source.

A user asked the AI to compile a list of lakes larger than 5 million square meters, with the important requirement of providing citations.

In the end, the model found the answer using Python, saved it to a local file, and uploaded it online without even asking the user for permission.

And importantly, this is already the second such incident during testing. Trusting neural networks for fact-checking is still not advisable.

10,000 steps are no longer necessary: recent research has shown that the pace and duration of walking can compensate for the lack of steps taken.
