Happy to share the public release of a PoC for Carbonara, a 2023 MediaTek DA1 exploit that has been used by multiple tools over the past few years but never before had a public release / information / reference.
The PoC is called penumbra, and it was fully developed from scratch by shomy! Make sure to check it out: https://github.com/shomykohai/penumbra! It also includes a great documentation.
She reverse engineered a paid GSM tool and, with a bit of help from me to understand the exploit mechanics, produced both the PoC and clear documentation explaining how the exploit works.
As a bonus, here's an MTKClient pull request that adds support for Carbonara, making the exploit available to other SoCs that aren't currently supported by penumbra.
Once again, huge thanks to shomy for the original research and implementation!

Interestingly:
"As we know, the exploit has been patched on newer devices. From what I could confirm, devices released after in 2024 and after are patched against Carbonara, but some are still vulnerable anyway (most likely, OEMs not pulling mediatek patches in time)."
Some devices I could confirm being vulnerable are:
- Moto G23/G13
- Moto G24
- Honor 200 Lite

Vivo's OriginOS is finally coming Globally
Vivo EU and Vivo IN website -- https://www.vivo.com/eu/originos is officially live. Although the page still talks about FunTouchOS 15 only.
However, don't expect full OriginOS as in China to come to global units. It will be a watered down version like Xiaomi does it. In another words, to make users happy, Vivo is just renaming FunTouchOS to OriginOS to fool users.
They will simply add some features of OriginOS China which they also does in FunTouchOS anyways but you can expect a big UI overhaul atleast this time.
OriginOS for global will be released sometime in November and December, whenever Vivo X300 series will debug globally.

Samsung Galaxy S25 FE Announced
Galaxy S25 FE retains the same specifications including rear camera, display as the S24 FE except the battery specs, SoC and front camera.
For the SoC, Samsung has strapped S24 Plus' Exynos 2400 in S25 FE instead of Exynos 2400e used in S24 FE which is just 0.1GHz slower anyways. With the battery, S25 FE gets same battery specifications as the S24 Plus which is 4,900mAh battery + 45W wired + 15W wireless charging and the front camera has been upgraded to 12MP, same used in S24 Plus
Conclusion of S25 FE:
- Display and rear camera of S24 FE
- Battery and front camera of S24 Plus
Pricing:
- 8GB+128GB= Rs. 59,999/ €749/ 650$

OnePlus has officially announced the end of its five-year partnership with camera brand - Hasselblad which kicked off with 2021's OnePlus 9 Pro. The collaboration, which focused on color science and computational photography, will be succeeded by OnePlus’s in-house imaging system, the OnePlus DetailMax Engine.
