BTW: Android 16 Beta 1 might be coming tomorrow…
Google told me that the Pixel 9 will get beta access to Android’s improved LE Audio support for hearing aids tomorrow (Jan 23)…and in their press release, they said these improvements will be available through the Android 16 beta.
That means it's likely Beta 1 is coming tomorrow, though Google wouldn't explicitly confirm that. Still, that’s not too surprising since Google already said it’d come sometime in January.

Big news: Google has just announced that Android will soon make ALL apps resizable on large screen devices!
Currently, apps can lock themselves to portrait orientation or certain aspect ratios, which sucks for large screen devices like tablets, Chromebooks, and upcoming XR devices.
On large screen devices, Android 16 will ignore apps' requests to restrict resizing and orientation changes. This behavior applies to apps that target API 36 but doesn't apply to games. Apps can opt out in Android 16 but this opt-out will be removed in the next Android release.
Google is previewing these changes in Android 16 Beta 1.

Forwarded from Kiwi Browser Builds
Important note: Kiwi Browser is now archived. It will no longer be maintained after January 2025.
The extensions code for Kiwi Browser has now been integrated into Microsoft Edge Canary.
To install extensions on Microsoft Edge Canary:
Open Microsoft Edge Canary and go to Settings > About Microsoft Edge.
Tap the Edge build number (e.g., xx.0.2487.0) 5 times to enable Developer Options.
In Developer Options, select Extension install by id.
To find the extension ID:
Open the Microsoft Edge Web Store.
Locate and select the desired extension.
Copy the ID from the URL (e.g., for Bitwarden, the ID is jbkfoedolllekgbhcbcoahefnbanhhlhfrom the URL ending).
Paste the extension ID into the Extension install by id field.
The extension will install.
If you really need Kiwi Browser, you can download the latest published version of Kiwi Browser here. Do not download Kiwi Browser from any other sources.
While your Kiwi Browser installation will still work for some time, it’s essential to explore alternatives like Microsoft Edge Canary, Vivaldi Browser or Mozilla Firefox to stay secure and up-to-date.

The Galaxy S25 sadly doesn't support the Android Virtualization Framework (AVF).
If this doesn't change in Android 16, it means the device won't support the new Terminal app that lets you run a Linux distro in a virtual machine.
The reason I'm surprised by this is that Android 15's vendor software requirements state that chipsets that launch with vendor API level 202404 must declare support for AVF. That means every device with the Snapdragon 8 Elite is capable of supporting it, but I guess Samsung still chose to disable it. Maybe it still interferes with the Knox hypervisor?
Hopefully Samsung adds support in a future release, because Android 16's Terminal app is shaping up to be an incredibly useful feature!

Meta Now Lets Users Say Gay and Trans People Have ‘Mental Illness’
Meta announced updates to its content moderation policies, ending fact-checking partnerships and lifting restrictions on speech about immigration, gender, and identity. Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan said content allowed in public forums should also be allowed on Meta platforms, while CEO Mark Zuckerberg called current rules outdated.
Key changes include allowing accusations of mental illness tied to gender or sexual orientation, permitting claims about gender-based job restrictions, and removing bans on linking protected groups to spreading COVID-19. Language warning that hateful speech may promote violence was removed, though rules against inciting imminent violence remain. Protections against Holocaust denial, blackface, and dehumanizing comparisons of protected groups were retained.
Meta reaffirmed protections for groups based on race, ethnicity, gender, and immigration status but did not clarify if controversial statements, such as Donald Trump’s comments on immigrants, would be allowed.
