T-Mobile has confirmed they've been compromised (again). This time it was slightly different — they were compromised by Chinese state-sponsored Threat Actors.

The United States Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) put out a statement regarding the matter on November 13th.

This makes this the 9th time T-Mobile (or a T-Mobile partner) has been compromised since 2019. We've actually lost count on the number of compromises, but thankfully BleepingComputer has archived and/or documented them really well.

Our hearts go out to the cybersecurity employees at T-Mobile. Following some of the more recent breaches we became familiar with some of the employees there and the difference they're trying to make with the organization. We wholeheartedly believe they're trying to improve the security posture of the organization... but APT Salt Typhoon a/k/a UNC2286 is a heavy hitter and is no joke.

Google issued an advisory to its partners on October 25, 2024 due to the public leak and misuse of a large number of factory-configured authentication keys.
Affected OEMs are updating key boxes to eliminate the potential impact on users' devices.

Wow: the DoJ's antitrust enforcers are "set to propose that Google uncouple its Android smartphone operating system from its other products, including search and its Google Play mobile app store," according to Bloomberg.

The DoJ has reportedly also "pulled back from a more severe option that would have forced Google to sell off Android," but forcing the company to stop bundling GMS would still be huge.

Details are sparse on what exactly this would mean. Notably, device makers can technically already ship Android without GMS (it's just AOSP in that case). However, if they want the Play Store and Play Services (which they do because that's where all the apps/useful APIs are), then they currently have to bundle Chrome, Google Search, and other Google apps as well.

The EU already put an end to the forced bundling of Google Search and Chrome, which is why there's a separate GMS license for EEA launches. But that hasn't happened in the U.S. yet, which is possibly what the DoJ wants to see happen.

Android 16 Developer Preview 1 is Out!

Google has released the first developer preview of Android 16 so that app developers can test the new APIs & behavior changes. In the case of Android 16 SDK_INT constant, it will be “36” on release (“BAKLAVA”; also the Desert codename for Android 16)

Surprise! The Pixel 6 Series is alive.
Pixel 6 and 6 Pro's guaranteed 3 AndroidOS upgrades was completed by October 2024 & Pixel 6a will get updates atleast till July, 2025.
However, Google has released A16 DP1 to Pixel 6 and 6 Pro & they already got A15 QPR 2 Beta 1 updates (March QPR 2), thus indicating Google will ship Android 16 stable release, making it their 4th AndroidOS upgrade.

Android 16 will be released quite soon this time. There will be 2 DPs (Last in December 2024) and 4 Betas (till May 2025), with final Android 16 stable release in Q2 2025, likely on 3rd June
