Apple Pulls Back iPadOS 18 Update for M4 iPad Pro After Bricking Complaints

Users have reported on Reddit that iPadOS 18 update for their M4 powered iPad Pro bricked their devices. In some cases, a total replacement was required for affected users. Not all M4 ‌iPad Pro‌ owners have had an issue installing the update, and it could be linked to installing the new iOS 17.7 update before installing iOS 18.

Thus, for now, Apple has pulled back the update of iPadOS 18 that was released yesterday only. So, the new software is no longer available to be downloaded and installed at the current time on the M4 iPad pro

Google announced extended repair program for the Pixel 8 display

On 14th June, 3 months ago, Google announced extended repair program for “limited number of Pixel 8 devices” that suffer from “display related vertical line and flickering issues.” I forgot to cover it and now here are the eligibility requirements:

• Exhibits a vertical line running from the bottom to the the top or a display flicker
• Has a devcie IMEI or serial number

Google will “provide support coverage for affected Pixel 8 devices for 3 years after the date of original retail purchase.” The program specifically provides “one free display replacement for eligible Pixel 8 devices.” Additionally:

“Any repair under this Extended Repair Program is warranted for 90 days.
“If your Pixel 8 display or cover-glass has been cracked or the device exhibits other forms of damage, like liquid intrusion, it may not qualify.

Previous extended repair programs have been for the Pixel 5a’s display and the battery on the Pixel 4 XL.

OnePlus 12 motherboard fails, company does not have spare parts

A OnePlus loyalist bought a OnePlus 12 in Delhi & after just 4 weeks, the display failed. OnePlus service center claimed that the motherboard needs to be changed.

The user even purchased an extended warranty worth Rs.6,000 (~70$) but what's the point of it when OnePlus does NOT have the motherboard component for its latest smartphone available in India? OnePlus does NOT know when the motherboard will arrive, nor is it providing a free replacement unit.

Acc. to the user, "Within a month OnePlus 12 crashed a few times. Then, just randomly while using the phone, it crashed. The screen became this. Also, the touch isn't calibrated well."
Another OnePlus 12 user reported: "When I turned on my OnePlus 12, the phone froze completely. NO touch, NO input was working. I waited for a while & the phone began working again. The same happened to his OnePlus 10 pro & eventually its motherboard RIP"

- Dr. Web, the Russian antivirus company, disclosed a breach. Dr. Web stopped sending antivirus updates September 16th. Subsequently, Dr. Web reportedly disconnected their servers from their internal network while they investigated the suspected compromise. Dr. Web reports to have resolved the issue and has returned to normal day-to-day operations. No Threat Actor has been attributed to the compromise. They believe the compromise occurred on or around September 14th.

- Yesterday, or sometime before, GitHub users were targeted in mass by a large scale phishing and/or malware campaign. An unknown Threat Actor(s) pushed their Lumma Stealer campaign by leaving bogus issues on GitHub projects. When the project owner visited the issue, the issue linked to a domain titled 'GitHub-Scanner'. GitHub-Scanner requested the visitor prove their humanity (e.g. not a robot) by doing Windows + R and CTRL + V + ENTER. When the site is visited, the website copies malicious code to the users clipboard. Windows + R, opening Windows Run, and CTRL + V, pasting the malicious code to the Run window and ENTER would run the code, this would trick the user into executing their malware payload. Once the payload is executed, it downloads a file called 'IE6.exe'. IE6.exe is Lumma information stealer. While it is a clever trick, the Threat Actor(s) (intentionally, or unintentionally) did not account for users who are not running Windows. This caused confusion for non-Windows users, or users on mobile devices.

Funfact: Making cows wear VR headsets increases milk yields by 22%

In some countries, for example in Russia, farmers put VR headsets on their cows during winters because when it snows, the ground gets covered and thus cows cannot graze on green fields which stresses them out and decreases their milk yields.

The VR headsets show them beautiful green fields landscapes, relaxing the cows. This method ended up increasing the milk production by 22% in winters
