OnePlus 12R Smartphone Melted

A user on XDA (unlikely from India) reported that his OnePlus 12R (16GB RAM variant) started smoking while it was in his pocket and then suddenly exploded after he threw it on the ground just in time.

The users says,
"About two weeks ago, my 3-month-old OnePlus 12R 16GB started smoking in my pants pocket and literally melted when I took it out. It was operational just seconds before and showed NO signs of any issues. I had not improperly charged it or exposed it to overheating or anything similar. Suddenly, the screen started melting before my eyes, which took a moment for me to realize. I threw it into the garden, and shortly after, it looked like this.I reported the issue as quickly as possible, and customer support responded promptly. They asked me to fill out a poorly formatted form to describe the incident and send in the device. Now, I'm waiting for further information from OnePlus."

A 31-year-old passenger, who was travelling by Vande Bharat Express from Chennai Central railway station to Mysuru, narrowly escaped a disaster when his Realme 9i smartphone blasted inside the train. The Realme smartphone was on charging and when the passenger attempted to disconnect his phone from the charger, the device exploded, and thick smoke engulfed his coach and the adjoining ones in a few minutes

"Passengers of the compartment started screaming as they spotted smoke emitting from the passage of the toilet in between the C-11 and C-12 coaches. The train was halted immediately and the main doors of the two coaches were opened for clearing the smoke,".

The incident delayed the train by around 35 minutes. The electrical lines in the train were unaffected and luckily no one was injured in the incident.

OnePlus Becomes The World's Fastest Brand To Ship Green Lines

After hitting the market, it seems the newly released & the latest smartphone i.e OnePlus Nord 4 decided to debut its own special feature: Green Lines.

A user purchased the OnePlus Nord 4 smartphone in India (8GB RAM with 256GB storage config) and within just 12 hours, green lines introduced themselves. Acc. to the user, he bought the phone last night, and the screen went green after "just one hour" of usage. Updated the software, and voilà – Green Line Achievement Unlocked!

Nord 4 uses Tianma U8+ panel & OnePlus bragged about 69,420mm² large vapor chamber for heat dissipation & it still got green lines under 24hrs. OnePlus advertised that Nord 4 comes with 6yrs of System Fluency certification from TUV Rheinland but it seems that software updates are introducing green lines along with smoothness.

The user is requesting OnePlus to replace and give him a new Nord 4 instead of repairing it since not even 12hrs old.

Motorola Stopped Supporting Bootloader Unlock for Older Smartphones

Motorola is stopping bootloader unlocking for their older smartphones. Users of old Moto smartphones like Motorola G5 codenamed 'Cedric' or the Moto 1st Gen, when tried to the unlock bootloader, they are getting noted that "Your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking"

Upon contacting Motorola, the support responded that "the unlock key is no longer available due to its age" and thus the bootloader cannot be unlocked anymore. Its' such a shame to stop supporting bootloader unlocking of older phone since custom ROMs are still keeping older Moto upto-date.

Moto Z2 Force was launched in August, 2017 and still Motorola denied bootloader unlocking arguing that the unlock key is no-longer available. Meanwhile, LineageOS 21 based on Android 14 is still officially supported for Moto Z2 Force and it still gets updated with LOS nightly builds

Google Security Team Researchers Discovered Nearly A Dozen Critical Vulnerabilities in Qualcomm Adreno GPU

At the Defcon security conference in Las Vegas, 3 Google researchers presented more than 9 critical vulnerabilities that they discovered in Qualcomm's Adreno GPU.

We are a small team compared to the big Android ecosystem—the scope is too big for us to cover everything, so we have to figure out what will have the most impact,” says Xuan Xing, manager of Google's Android Red Team. “So why did we focus on a GPU driver for this case? It's because there’s no permission required for untrusted apps to access GPU drivers.Android phones can talk to the Adreno GPU driver directly with “NO sandboxing, NO additional permission checks,”

“Regarding the GPU issues disclosed by Android Security Red Team, patches were made available to OEMs in May 2024,” a Qualcomm Spokesperson told WIRED , and encouraged end users to obtain and apply these patches from device manufacturers.
