GrapheneOS may take legal action against Google regarding Play Integrity API

If it's not an official OS, we have to assume it's bad.

- Shawn Willden (X)

GrapheneOS users found that Authy, a 2FA manager, won't work on their devices due to Play Integrity, which verifies Android device security through Google Play Services. GrapheneOS, which doesn’t include Play Services by default, allows users to install a sandboxed version.

GrapheneOS criticized LineageOS for disabling verified boot and reducing security, leading to misconceptions about custom ROMs.

Most certified Android devices don't comply with Google's standards. Play Integrity API lacks a minimum security patch level, and most apps using it have weak software-based checks that attackers can easily bypass.

The project plans to take legal action and has begun discussions with regulators.

Google Chrome warns uBlock Origin may soon be disabled

Google Chrome is encouraging uBlock Origin users to switch to other ad blockers as it phases out support for Manifest v2 (MV2) extensions in favor of Manifest v3 (MV3). Since uBlock Origin is an MV2 extension, users see warnings suggesting alternatives. uBlock Origin Lite (uBOL) is a pared-down MV3-compliant version.

Chrome will disable MV2 extensions over the coming months, with users directed to MV3 alternatives. Enterprises using the ExtensionManifestV2Availability policy are exempt until June 2025.

In a first, Robot commits suicide in South Korea

An administrative officer robot hired by South Korea's Gumi City Council was found unresponsive after it allegedly threw itself down a flight of stairs, thus committing suicide.
Witnesses claimed to have seen the robot "circling in one spot as if something was there" before the accident.

This administrative officer robot was made by Bear Robotics, a Californian robot-waiter startup and it appointed in August in the Gumi City Council to serve a civil servant. The robot used to work from 9 AM to 6 PM and robot reportedly “helped with daily document deliveries, city promotion, and delivered information to the local residents. While other robots usually stay on a particular floor, the one held by the Gumi City Council was capable enough to call an elevator and go to different floors on its own.

The cause of the fall remains unclear, but it could be either due to malfunctioning or the robot was overworked by humans

Nothing's NFT is now dead like any other NFT cashgrab; owners get no more perks.

Investors were supposed to have access to exclusive groups, early access to products/events/offers and IRL community activities. In reality, they only had access to a Discord chat and Phone(1) launch event LMAO

Owners of the overpriced JPEG will receive products depending on the NFT;
- 29 red dot owners will get a Phone (2a) plus and audio product - 14.4k black dot owners will get a $80/4000 INR store voucher

To get that NFT in the first place, you had to be a Nothing investor, preordered a green tint (1) or bought one from the third market (at some point someone paid 1.0397 ETH/$3000 for one LMAOOOOO)

GitHub Roaster: Roast a GitHub Profile

GitHub Roaster is a fun web app designed to roast GitHub profiles. All you have to do is enter your username, and it will generate a pretty funny and I'd say, a pretty accurate roast. Currently, it's running using GPT-4o-mini because it is way cheaper than GPT-4o.

This has been developed by Rubi, the developer of Lokal.so.

Share your profile's roasts in the comments!

Logitech discussed about possibility of a “forever mouse” that will require a subscription

Speaking on The Verge's Decoder podcast, Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber discussed about the possibility of selling a mouse that customers can use "forever." The mouse will cost 200$ & will rely on software updates, likely delivered through a subscription model

I’m not planning to throw that watch away ever. So why would I be throwing my mouse or my keyboard away if it’s a fantastic-quality, well-designed, software-enabled mouse? The forever mouse is one of the things that we’d like to get to.

A "forever mouse" would also benefit from a design with self-repairability in mind like with features such as hot-swappability for mouse button switches, easily replaceable shells, wheels & feet; detachable cables etc.

The challenge, however, is finding a business model that supports that idea without requiring an exorbitant hardware price. Don't worry, its just a possibility and Logitech is NOT developing it
