Man scammed after AI told him fake Facebook customer support number was real
Dave Gaudreau, a Winnipeg man, got scammed after calling a fake Facebook support number found online by his wife. Facebook's "Meta AI" tool incorrectly verified the number as legitimate.
The scammer, posing as Facebook support, accessed his account and claimed his IP address was hacked. She instructed him to download an app that gave her access to his phone.
During the call, the scammer accessed his PayPal account and purchased a $500 Apple gift card. Gaudreau's wife realized the scam, prompting him to cancel credit cards and file fraud complaints. PayPal agreed to reverse the $500 charge against his account.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Series Processors Pricing
Source
Here are the price of Snapdragon 8 series SoCs, 2-6 months after mass production, according to Moore Elite
SD 865: 55$
SD 888: 30$
SD 8 Gen 1: 38$
SD 8+ Gen 1: 80$
SD 8 Gen 2: 100$
SD 8 Gen 3: 135$
SD 8 Gen 4: 200$ (expected)
Now with Snapdragon 865, there is NO modem i.e Qualcomm sells the modem separately.
So add another 40$ to it
If you notice, Snapdragon 888 and 8 Gen 1 are the cheapest of all because they were manufactured by Samsung Foundry.
Thus, the TSMC wafer pricing is very very expensive compared to Samsung Foundry
It's even speculated that Samsung Foundry 4nm process is about 2x cheaper than TSMC N6, which is used in low-end mobile chips.
So if Qualcomm wants a decently cheap high-end SoC, that's why the SD 8s Gen 3 exist, which was cut down so much that it does NOT even beat the SD 8 Gen 2 in both performance and efficiency.
Also, the SD 8s Gen 3 smartphones are not much cheaper than SD 8 Gen 2 phones.

ARM Unveils Next-Gen Cortex-X925 CPU and Immortalis G925 GPU Designs
IP core designer Arm announced its next-generation CPU and GPU designs for flagship smartphones: the Cortex-X925 CPU along with Cortex-A725 and the Immortalis G925 GPU
Both are direct successors to the Cortex-X4 CPU and Immortalis G720 GPU and are compliant with Arm v9.2.
They also form the basis of the company's CSS (Compute SubSystems) for Client, previously known as Total Compute Solutions (TCS)
Cortex-X925:
β’ 36% improved single-core performance on Geekbench
β’ Increased the AI workload performance by 41%
β’ Upto 3MB Private L2 Cache
Cortex-A725:
β’ 35% better performance efficiency
β’ 25% and 15% more power efficient than Cortex-A720 and A520
Immortalis G925:
β’ 37% faster on graphics applications
β’ 52% improved Ray-tracing performance
β’ Improved AI and ML workloads by 34%
β’ Consumes 30% less power
As a bonus for mobile game developers, Lumen ray tracing on Unreal Engine now supports Immortalis.
Refreshed Cortex-A520:
β’ 15% energy saving than TCS-2023 A520
β’ Advanced 3nm physical implementation
DSU-120:
The DynamIQ Shared Unit, or DSU, integrates one or more cores with an L3 memory system, control logic, and external interfaces in order to form a multicore cluster
DSU-120 launched last year with TCS23 and this year L3 Quick Nap has been introduced which is a sophisticated power-saving mode that runs independently, requiring no intervention from SoC manufacturers like MediaTek or Qualcomm to enable or tune.
This feature ensures that the L3 cache enters a low-power state when not in use and wakes up automatically as needed

Apple Downgrades The New M2 iPad Air
Source
Apple recently introduced the new iPad Air 6th Gen, powered by an 8-core M2 processor with a 10-core GPU.
But now, Apple has very cleverly & quietly updated its specifications. Apple now says that the M2 iPad Air features a 9-core GPU instead of a 10-core GPU
Based on archive data, the change appears to have been made within the last 10 days.
The original press release for the M2 iPad Air launch still says it features a 10-core GPU. Apple has also NOT yet updated its tech specs pages in countries outside of the United States.
This is the first time that Apple has sold an M2 chip in any machine with a 9-core GPU. Even the M2 MacBook Air is available with an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU.
This indicates that the M2 chip being used inside the iPad Air is a binned version of the 10-core version, similar to the M4 chip being a binned variant in the iPad Pro with 8GB RAM options
