Heart rate monitoring in smartwatches relies partially on photoplethysmography (PPG), which uses light pulses to measure blood activity
Now researchers at Google have successfully used audioplethysmography (APG), which utilizes ultrasound to measure heart rate, for cardiac monitoring with hearable devices WITHOUT adding extra sensors or compromising battery life.
They did it with off-the-shelf ANC earbuds & with just a software update.
The trick works by sending a low intensity ultrasound probing signal through an ANC headphone's speakers. This signal triggers echoes, which are received via on-board feedback microphones.
"We observe that the tiny ear canal skin displacement and heartbeat vibrations modulate these ultrasound echoes.
Ultrasound approach worked robustly even when music was playing & with bad earbuds sealed"
APG adheres to safety regulations with an 80dB margin below the limit

The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has ordered a BAN on Apple Watch imports into the country after finding that Apple infringed Masimo's patents relating to light-based technology for reading blood-oxygen levels.
Masimo accused Apple of having illegally poached Masimo employees and stole trade secrets when developing the Apple Watch.
The company is seeking over $1.8 billion in damages and co-ownership of 5 Apple pulse oximetry patents that's originally Masimo's tech
Apple might also face another Ban on Watch import in a separate patent court battle with AliveCor company.
The ban is now subject to presidential review, so it does NOT take effect immediately.
Apple can also take the ban to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit after the 60-day review period ends.
Apple said: "Masimo has wrongly attempted to use the ITC to keep a potentially lifesaving product from millions of U.S. consumers"

Really A Dead Brand. Remember when the launch of the last GT series was in India? It was on 29th April 2022 ft. GT Neo 3. 1.5 years later, we are yet to witness any GT series launching in India.
Meanwhile the current GT series are selling for deep discounts and Realmeme is currently clearing the stocks of the GT series. The next launch of the GT series in India? No news, probably dead and discontinued in India.
Reasons? Many.
1. Heavy politics within the company's people where several founding people who made Realme a true brand in India were forced to resign from the company.
2. Huge dependency on China. The employees of India were hardly given freedom of taking decisions, as was seen from the recent interview of Madhav Sheth, the Ex CEO and Global Marketing Head of Realme India. All the decision making and control was done from HQ in China with little to no freedom of Indian employees. And the irony was that they called themselves an Indian brand.
3. Heavy issues in devices and heavy ads and bloatwares even in the flagship devices. None were spared including the latest 11 Pro series that came pre-installed with almost 70+ applications.
4. Poor management of the Community. The Realme community India was once a peaceful place to be in. The management and handling of issues was top-notch with one of the best community specialists the company could ever have. But same politics forced them to resign and then were succeeded by some dumb clowns who hardly even know the true meaning of the community. The decision management is poor and irony is that they are focusing on banning several ex- community members instead of focusing on making the community better. Behind The Scenes of Shooting Entire Apple's Scary Event on iPhone 15 Pro Max
The 30-minute long M3 family chipset launch event was shot on an iPhone and edited on a Mac
All presenters, locations, and drone footage were shot on iPhone 15 Pro Max
Apple has now published BTS of shooting the event on iPhone which required the help of a full suite of professional recording equipment costing tens of thousands of dollars and studio lighting
So, it’s not like everyday folks can recreate these kinds of results at home unless they happen to own a shedload of ludicrously expensive equipment.
But even if Apple had used a DSLR camera like in its previous events, the same equipment and lightning were still required.
This was a neat way to promote the recording quality of iPhones, unlike some brands that make youtube videos comparing their smartphone's capabilities with iPhones or they do in their launch event even after shamelessly copying everything from iPhone

All presenters, locations, and drone footage were shot on iPhone 15 Pro Max
Apple has now published BTS of shooting the event on iPhone which required the help of a full suite of professional recording equipment costing tens of thousands of dollars and studio lighting
So, it’s not like everyday folks can recreate these kinds of results at home unless they happen to own a shedload of ludicrously expensive equipment.
But even if Apple had used a DSLR camera like in its previous events, the same equipment and lightning were still required.
This was a neat way to promote the recording quality of iPhones, unlike some brands that make youtube videos comparing their smartphone's capabilities with iPhones or they do in their launch event even after shamelessly copying everything from iPhone
