Qualcomm unveils βSnapdragon Seamlessβ cross-platform solution
Each US household now has on average 21 different digital devices & they donβt talk to each other all that well, especially if theyβre from different manufacturers.
This can reduce consumer choice and create lock-in (like Apple does) where consumers feel stuck with one manufacturer so their devices can work together.
So, Qualcomm unveiled an innovative technology known as Snapdragon Seamless.
This cross-platform solution facilitates the seamless linking of multiple devices across multiple OSes including Android, Windows, and Snapdragon devices
For Example:
β’ Mouse and keyboards can work seamlessly across PCs/Laptops
β’ Files and windows can be dragged and dropped across different types of devices.
β’ Earbuds can switch intelligently
Microsoft, Android, Xiaomi, ASUS, Honor, Lenovo, Oppo etc have collaborated with Qualcomm to create this multi-device experiences.
It will arrive on global device platforms this year.

Talking about Android Custom ROMs:
HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1) was the first Android device which the developers found an exploit for and then got superuser access.
Koushik Dutta, founder of Clockwork Mod, provided the first detailed guide to root HTC G1.
The famous custom in those days was "JF ROM" by JesusFreke (I'm not sure if it was the first one)
JesusFreke stopped development in August 2009 and suggested users to shift to CyanogenMOD made by Steve Kodnik which was an enhanced version of JF!
CyanogenMOD's first version was 3.1 (Dream & Magic) which was released in July 2009. The final release was 13.0 ZNH5YAO (from Android 6.0.1 r61) which was released in 20 December 2016!
After CyanogenMOD's development ended, it was succeeded by LineageOS.
In December 2016 the CyanogenMod developer group forked and re-branded the CyanogenMod code into a new project named LineageOS, which is built on top of CyanogenMod versions 13 and 14.1. LineageOS version 15.1 was the first release fully controlled by the new LineageOS team.
There were also other custom ROMS in those days, like SlimRoms, Replicant, AOKP, OmniROM, Resurrection Remix OS, CalyxOS, CopperheadOS, /e/, Mokee ROM, Dirty Unicorns, and more!π€
Do let me know if I missed somethingπ
Note: The attached image is Demi Adejuyigbe's Android home screen; modified G1 with JesusFreke 1.51 ADP firmware, skinned with XDA's HTC Hero theme - Link

Xiaomi βHyperOSβ announced
Xiaomi has finally announced HyperOS, a larger unified branding for its entire ecosystem, ranging from smartphones to IOT products to cars etc.
For IoT products, HyperOS relies on the open-source Xiaomi Vela platform, which is based on the open-source RTOSβNuttX.
While for smartphones & tablets, HyperOS is based on AOSP.
Base Android version is also independent of the HyperOS version. For eg, Xiaomi Pad 5 will be updated to HyperOS v1 based on Android 13.
Xiaomi says HyperOS allows for a stable frame rate & lower power consumption compared to stock Android when gaming but BTS, its just MIUI 15
In their whole press release, Xiaomi FAILED to explain the technical details of how different it is from outgoing MIUI firmware.
But Xiaomiβs HyperOS appears to show innovation is the HyperConnect framework that is meant for bringing all its devices together for a cohesive ecosystem experience
Xiaomi HyperOS will begin rollout internationally in Q1 2024.

Xiaomi HyperOS for smartphones is just rebranded MIUI
Xiaomi notes restructuring of modules like file & network system, memory management etc with HyperOS.
However, Xiaomi successfully fails to explain how different it is from MIUI firmware
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC ONLY supports 64bit apps
This forced Xiaomi to redo the overlays that target the 32bit Framework.
You can't build the frameworks as 32bit because of the massive overhead which is ~40% with tango
As they're forced to redo the framework, management see the potential to rebrand it along the way.
Thus the "Vela" platform was born in the marketing board
There is NO single reference to Xiaomi's open-sourced "Vela" Platform in Xiaomi work Gerrit (private).
Also, several Xiaomi HALs are 32bit including the MIUI media server LOL
So, HyperOS is just MIUI with new SystemUI overlays & an excuse to the technical difficulty of shipping 64-bit only lmao
FunFact: Xiaomi came up & trademarked HyperOS just last month on 28th September
