Smartspacer is a supercharged version of Google's At a Glance widget.
Google's At a Glance widget can already do a lot of things like show you timer and stopwatch info, flashlight reminders, and more, but it has limited support for showing info from other apps. It can show the status from ridesharing apps like Uber, doorbell alerts from Nest, safety check countdowns from Personal Safety, fitness tracking info from Adidas Running and Strava ... but not much else.
Smartspacer, though, has 20 different plugins to pull info from a variety of apps and OS settings, including:
* Aftership
* Amazon
* BBC Weather
* Google Finance
* Google Keep
* Google Maps
* Google Wallet
* Health Connect
* Pokemon Go
* Samsung Health
* Uber
* Yahoo Sports
* YouTube
There are also plugins for showing the battery (of the device, connected devices, and remote devices), notifications, sunrise/sunset info, data usage, and energy monitor.
Oh. And it HAS A PLUGIN FOR TASKER! That means you can basically program Smartspacer to show ANYTHING you want.
Using Smartspacer, you can do things like show your loyalty cards or Keep lists when you're at certain locations. You can also show more advanced flight tracking info, better delivery alerts, and so much more.
Best part: It doesn't require root access and works on both Pixel and non-Pixel devices. On Pixel devices, Smartspacer even keeps all the original At a Glance functionality, so you lose nothing by switching to it.
My friend Kieron Quinn has been working on Smartspacer for nearly a year and a half now and is getting ready to release it. Right now, it's in a preview state and is only available to a handful of testers. If you're interested, then join the Discord group!
(Developers: Kieron says he's making an SDK for launcher integration. Documentation and the SDK for plugin development will also be released soon.)

Google is working on Google Glasses and a Pixel Ring
In January 2022, it was reported that Google was building an AR headset under the βProject Irisβ that is meant to compete against Meta & Apple.
But in June 2023, Insider reported that Google has killed off its plans for Project Iris & the projectβs leader already left Google even
However, the report does noted that the AR Headset is still in development & now a leaker also confirms the same
Apart from the AR Headset, Google is currently developing a wearable controllerβ 'Pixel Ring' for Augmented Reality (AR). This Pixel Ring will be fitted onto user's index finger & will be linked to control Google Smart Glasses
Well, Google's XR Division is still alive anyways
Google is just now focused more on software than hardware.
Itβs building a βmicro XRβ platform that it could license to other headset manufacturers like it does with Android
Also, Googleβs Goggles βwere actually the foundationsβ of the upcoming Samsung headset.

Google confirms Lossless USB Audio is coming soon
The Lossless USB audio feature was first introduced with Android 14 beta 2 & promises an audiophile-level experience over compatible USB-wired headsets.
Google has now confirmed that Lossless USB Audio is coming in a future update
In a recent Reddit AMA session, a user raised a question regarding the need for apps like Tidal to activate an exclusive mode in order to seize control of their Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) and transmit audio in a lossless manner.
Googleβs VP of Engineering, Dave Burke said that "The lossless USB audio ensures bit perfect audio, so audio bypasses the audio mixer, any processing effects, etc."
But before Google rolls out the feature, app developers will need to adopt the new API for lossless audio
Then the audio can be sent directly over USB without mixing, volume adjustment, or processing effects.
Since its a pure software feature, it will come to ALL Android 14 powered smartphones of any OEM

Xiaomi Teased HyperOS
Xiaomi so-called self-developed OS has been named Hyper OS & will debut with Xiaomi 14 series in China on 27th October
HyperOS will gradually replace MIUI
Now, Xiaomi has NOT named it MiOS because of Apple, as the name MiOS has 'iOS' as a suffix which can lead to a legal dispute.
In short, Apple owns "iOS" trademark and MiOS is essentially adding a letter 'M' as a prefix.
But ironically, even if Xiaomi cannot use word MiOS, Xiaomi registered a domain as "mios.cn"
Nearly 5000 software engineers have worked on HyperOS & the development started way back in 2017 only.
FunFact: you will still see HyperOS a fork of Android which Xiaomi claimed it as self-developed just because of different kernel π€
Also, Xiaomi will make HyperOS as a 1st COPY iOS once again & it will also look similar to MIUI only.
Xiaomi's creativity is DEAD anyways
Xiaomi confirmed that HyperOS will come Globally too in 2024 & won't be China exclusive.
This means MIUI can finally Burn in Hell

Canon enters semiconductor industry by unveiling 5nm chip tech
Japanese Firm & Camera maker Canon has announced that it has developed a new tool called as FPA-1200NZ2C which is a nanoimprint Lithography (NIL) machine and it can be used to fabricate 5nm semiconductor chips for smartphones, PCs, servers etc
Canon has been developing this technology since 2004 but it faced several setbacks
In NIL, the equipment fabricates a chip by pressing a mask imprinted with the circuit pattern on the resist on the wafer, like a stamp.
Canon claims that the circuit transfer process can be more faithfully done with NIL compared to optical technologies like EUV (used by ASML machines)
Canon's NIL technology enables patterning with a minimum linewidth of 14 nm, equivalent to the 5nm node required to produce most advanced logic semiconductors.
With further improvement, NIL can even enable circuit patterning with a minimum linewidth of 10nm, which corresponds to 2nm node.

Google blocking Pixel 8 reviewers from benchmarking Tensor G3 chip is FAKE news
Recently, 3D Mark & GeekBench apps were not available to download from PlayStore for Pixel 8 series
Some so-called tech-enthusiasts came up with their "own conclusion" that Google is intentionally blocking reviewers from benchmarking Tensor G3 chip due to its poor throttling performance
But if Google wants to block benchmarking, they would have had their lawyers add that clause to the reviewers' NDAs
So this was likely API mis-match level problem that lead to apps NOT showing as the Pixel 8 was the 1st Android device to directly ship stable Android 14
Recently, CPU throttling app was NOT available to download from PlayStore for Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra which runs Android 14 based OneUI 6
So this means Samsung blocked it but the same app is available if you're on Android 13 ?
Anyways, 3D Mark & GB6 are now available for Pixel 8 & Stay away from opinions of users who just "copes" over smartphone-specs

FUNFACT: Now you can be BANNED from using your own printer
A redditor claims that he has been Banned by HP from using the HP Printer that he bought because he used the original ink that came in box which HP includes
In order to use them HP has even mandated to subscribe to the HP instant ink for using the cartridges that are included in the box.
Also, HP region locks their inks. So a printer purchased in the UK cannot get ink locally in Australia.
But HP says to change the region, you need to print a page to get "a code for changing region".
But the irony is, you cannot print page if the ink gets dried or the printer bans you

X is starting to charge new users $1 per year to send tweets
The subscription requires new users to pay the equivalent of $1 USD per year in order to be able to post.
"As of October 17th, 2023 weβve started testing 'Not A Bot,' a new subscription method for new users in two countries," X explains. "This new test was developed to bolster our already significant efforts to reduce spam, manipulation of our platform and bot activity. This will evaluate a potentially powerful measure to help us combat bots and spammers on X, while balancing platform accessibility with the small fee amount."
This fee is for new users only. Those who donβt pay will only be able to use X in a "read only" mode. It is currently being tested in New Zealand and the Philippines.
The company said that for now the fees will not apply to existing users.

Google India announced that Pixel smartphones will now be made in India
"Today we see an even greater opportunity to make Pixel smartphones available to more people in India, and are very excited to announce our plan to manufacture Pixel smartphones in India.
We intend to start with the Pixel 8, and will partner with international and domestic manufacturers to produce Pixel smartphones locally. We expect these devices to start to roll out in 2024, joining Indiaβs Make in India initiative."
Imo, its a good move considering Apple has also started making iPhones in India which has led to decrease in cost of iPhones in the country
Expect a good price cut next year for Pixel 8 series in India
