Android 14 will add Advanced Memory Protection Feature

Google is adding a new feature called "advanced memory protection" that can protect against memory safety bugs on compatible devices.

Acc to Google, memory safety bugs were responsible for 60% of high-severity security vulnerabilities and Millions of user-visible crashes till 2022.

Memory Tagging Extension (MTE) is a mandatory hardware feature of Arm v8.5 and above CPUs only that provides detailed information about memory violations.
ALL smartphones with their SoC having Arm v8.5+ cores will support it

Pixel 8 series Tensor G3 chip will come with Arm v9 CPU cores so this feature will be supported whereas Tensor G2 chip packs Arm v8.2 cores making Pixel 7 incompatible for this feature

The feature will be available in: Settings > Security & privacy > More security settings in Android 14

Google can now delete accounts that have been unused for 2 years

Google has announced that from December 2023, they may delete inactive accounts that haven't been used for 2 years, including content in Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, Calendar, YouTube and Google Photos.

Abandoned accounts are 10x less likely to have 2FA enabled, which can make them more vulnerable to identity theft. (so the best way to combat this is to remove your access to all of your accounts and email, right?)

This will only affect personal Google accounts, and not organizations like businesses or schools.

To keep your account active, you'll need to do one of either:
• have any subscription including Google One
• read/send an email
• use Google Drive/Search
• watch a YouTube video
• download an app from the Play Store
• sign in using Google for a third party app
• sign in to Google Photos

Google will send multiple notifications to your emails (including the recovery) before removing any content.

The leaker Kuba Wojciechowski has leaked a real life video showcasing a prototype Google Pixel 8 Pro. You can see the full design of the phone in white and the brand new thermometer feature.

There's now one wide pill fitting all of the cameras that looks larger than the one on the Pixel 7 Pro, and next to it there's the LED flash and thermometer sensor.

The infrared thermometer sensor lets you scan the body temperature by bringing the phone to your forehead, similar to other touchless thermometers.
