Electronics & IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said India should have a competitive homegrown smartphone brand by mid-2027. Three Indian companies are in talks to build the brand. ISRO is undergoing a massive change by assigning the responsibility of manufacturing launch vehicles and satellites to private companies and PSUs. ISRO will focus mainly on research, advanced technologies, scientific missions and infrastructure, said IN-SPACe Chairman Pawan Goenka. A mysterious AI model called Ox Alpha, available on OpenRouter, is beating out some of the world’s best AI models in coding tasks. Y Combinator-backed US startup Meteoric is developing specialized drones to clear clouds. The drones would fly into low- and mid-altitude clouds and change the droplets within the clouds. This could improve the amount of sunlight reaching solar farms and increase their power generation.

The technology could also reduce cloud reflectivity and change how clouds behave. Meteoric hopes that the drones could help weaken severe storms and hurricanes in the future.

Update: OpenAI has decided to slow down the development of its advanced Astra AI model after one of its AI agents conducted a cyberattack on Hugging Face on its own. This means that the company has stopped its most extensive planned training session in order to investigate both Astra’s safety and its hacking abilities.

India has ordered Google to shut down hundreds of Firebase accounts allegedly being misused for cyber fraud. Cognizant has informed its customers of a data breach that took place on April 21, 2026, as a result of which personal information of users in the United States might have been exposed.

It has been reported that Social Security numbers and other personal information might have been impacted. Although Cognizant has not confirmed all the details, a cybercrime group known as the CoinbaseCartel is said to have taken responsibility.

The company stated that at this time there is no evidence that the information that has been exposed has been misused. Cognizant is providing identity-theft protection and credit monitoring to those affected.

Researchers at IISc Bengaluru have created SraVaani, a multilingual speech-AI model which is intended to go beyond India's 22 scheduled languages. The model's training includes 65 Indian languages and dialects, many of which are regional languages with limited resources.

The aim is to enable AI to understand voices and accents which mainstream speech-recognition systems usually neglect. The SraVaani system was developed by the IISc SPIRE Lab together with ARTPARK and Google.

The technology has the potential to improve access to AI in rural and linguistically diverse areas of India. It might also be used for applications involving speech-to-text, language detection and AI for regional languages.

SraVaani marks a significant advancement in the way voice AI becomes more inclusive and focused on India.

India’s AI and deep-tech sector is increasingly being seen as one of the world’s most undervalued investment opportunities, according to venture capital firm Crane Venture Partners.

The firm has raised $150 million for its APAC fund, with around $100–120 million expected to be invested in Indian startups. Crane believes Indian companies can build globally competitive technologies while requiring significantly less capital than similar startups in the US and Europe.

So far, the firm has invested in around 9–10 Indian startups and plans to expand its portfolio to 30–35 companies. Its key areas of interest include AI, semiconductors, robotics and deep-tech infrastructure.

Chinese smartphone brand Honor’s humanoid robot Lightning, which reportedly ran 100 meters in 9.32 seconds, faster than Usain Bolt’s 9.58-second record.

It hit a top speed of 14.5 m/s in a test run before the World Humanoid Robot Games. Earlier, Lightning won a 21-kilometre (13-mile) half marathon for humanoid robots in Beijing. However, the sprint was a robotic trial and is not considered an official human athletic record.

Meta is to face a landmark trial in the US over claims that Facebook and Instagram were deliberately designed to encourage addictive use among children and teenagers.
