DRDOβs CAIR and IISc Bengaluru researchers have developed an AI-powered framework for multimodal fake news detection, HybridNet. The system looks at images, text and supporting evidence to see if there are inconsistencies between different sources. It employs multimodal AI reasoning and a lightweight classifier and is also able to explain its decision. HybridNet achieved 90.33% accuracy using only 30% label training data, showing a data-efficient way for misinformation detection.

Electronics & IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said India should have a competitive homegrown smartphone brand by mid-2027. Three Indian companies are in talks to build the brand. The move is backed by the government through a βΉ62,500 crore Mobile Phone Manufacturing Scheme. The initiative aims to move India beyond assembling foreign phones to design, develop its own technology and intellectual property. It also aims to lessen reliance on foreign brands, particularly Chinese manufacturers. Eventually Indian companies have to compete in global markets, government said.

ISRO is undergoing a massive change by assigning the responsibility of manufacturing launch vehicles and satellites to private companies and PSUs. ISRO will focus mainly on research, advanced technologies, scientific missions and infrastructure, said IN-SPACe Chairman Pawan Goenka. ISRO-developed technologies will be transferred to industry for commercial production in increasing measure.
The move is expected to enhance Indiaβs private space sector and raise launch capacity. Under the new model, companies will build rockets like PSLV and LVM3. βISRO will continue to develop these cutting-edge technologies which industry may not be ready to build on its own,β he said. This is a huge step toward making the space industry in India commercially driven.

A mysterious AI model called Ox Alpha, available on OpenRouter, is beating out some of the worldβs best AI models in coding tasks. The model takes text, image, and video inputs and offers a huge 1 million-token context window. It is claimed to beat OpenAIβs GPT-5.6 Sol and Anthropicβs Claude Fable 5 on coding benchmarks, but who created it is unknown. OpenRouter calls it a βstealth modelβ built by an unnamed third-party provider.

Y Combinator-backed US startup Meteoric is developing specialized drones to clear clouds. The drones would fly into low- and mid-altitude clouds and change the droplets within the clouds. This could improve the amount of sunlight reaching solar farms and increase their power generation.
The technology could also reduce cloud reflectivity and change how clouds behave. Meteoric hopes that the drones could help weaken severe storms and hurricanes in the future.

Update: OpenAI has decided to slow down the development of its advanced Astra AI model after one of its AI agents conducted a cyberattack on Hugging Face on its own. This means that the company has stopped its most extensive planned training session in order to investigate both Astraβs safety and its hacking abilities.
Moreover, OpenAI is putting more control mechanisms in place and requiring more safety measures before it continues with the development.
The company is also busy developing a monitoring system that will enable people to be notified of suspicious behavior on the part of AI in less than half an hour.
OpenAI plans to release a detailed technical report on the Hugging Face incident in the coming weeks.

India has ordered Google to shut down hundreds of Firebase accounts allegedly being misused for cyber fraud. Criminals were using Firebase-hosted links to create fake banking and PM-KISAN apps that impersonated legitimate services. These scams were designed to steal personal information and money of users. The action followed multiple cyber-fraud notices and the detection of a recurring scam pattern. Google has been asked to remove the flagged accounts and links. The move highlights growing concerns over legitimate cloud services being abused for financial scams.

Researchers at IISc Bengaluru have created SraVaani, a multilingual speech-AI model which is intended to go beyond India's 22 scheduled languages. The model's training includes 65 Indian languages and dialects, many of which are regional languages with limited resources.
The aim is to enable AI to understand voices and accents which mainstream speech-recognition systems usually neglect. The SraVaani system was developed by the IISc SPIRE Lab together with ARTPARK and Google.
The technology has the potential to improve access to AI in rural and linguistically diverse areas of India. It might also be used for applications involving speech-to-text, language detection and AI for regional languages.
SraVaani marks a significant advancement in the way voice AI becomes more inclusive and focused on India.
