Proton Mail Faces Block in India

The Karnataka High Court has ordered the Indian government to block Proton Mail after a design firm reported receiving AI-generated deepfake and abusive emails via the encrypted email platform. The action is being taken under Section 69A of the IT Act.

Proton Mail is still accessible, but some specific links are already blocked. The Swiss-based company stated it opposes illegal use but complies only with Swiss laws.

This follows growing concerns in India over misuse of encrypted services.
