Netflix has won the bidding war to purchase Warner Bros. Discovery.

Netflix announces that it has acquired Warner Bros., including HBO Max and HBO, in a deal valued at $82.7 billion
after separation of Discovery Global (which is expected to be completed in Q3 2026).

-Netflix expects to maintain WB's current operations and built on its strengths, including theatrical film releases.
-Netflix says it will offer more choice and greater value for consumers, enhance studio capabilities, and create greater value for talent.

They are now entering exclusive deal talks, with Netflix offering $30 a share and a $5 billion break-up fee.

Franchises such as The Big Bang Theory, The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, The Wizard of Oz and the DC Universe are set to join Netflix as a result.

The sale is not yet finalized, as the U.S. Department of Justice could also interfere due to anti-trust concerns.

All you need to know about the EU–X Fine 🚨

The EU has fined X (formerly Twitter) €120 million (₹1,080+ crore) for breaking the Digital Services Act (DSA) the first major penalty issued under this law.

Why X Was Fined (3 Accurate Reasons):
1️⃣ Misleading Blue Checkmark System
X allowed anyone to buy the blue tick without proper identity checks, but the tick still appeared like official verification.
➡️ The EU said this is misleading and confusing for users.

2️⃣ Lack of Ad Transparency
X did not provide required details about advertisements — such as who paid for them, why users were targeted, and how ads were shown.

3️⃣ Blocking Researcher Access
X refused to give researchers access to public data (like engagement information) needed to study misinformation and platform risks.

Deadlines X Must Follow (Official Timelines)
- 60 days → Fix the misleading Blue Tick design
- 90 days → Fix ad transparency + researcher data access

If X fails, the EU can escalate penalties up to 6% of X’s global annual revenue.

🔮 What Could Happen to the Blue Tick Next? (Most to Least Likely)

- Most Likely (70–80% chance)
Blue Tick stays but gets a new meaning
It becomes a clear “Premium Badge”, not a verification symbol.
This is the simplest solution and aligns with DSA rules.

- Moderately Likely (40–50% chance)
Identity Verification Required
Users may need to submit ID documents before getting the badge.
This removes the “misleading” problem entirely.

- Less Likely (25–30% chance)
Blue Tick removed in the EU only
If X fails to meet EU rules, the paid badge could be disabled for EU users.

- Least Likely (10–15% chance)
Blue Tick removed globally
This would happen only if X refuses changes and risks even larger fines.
