📍Smartphone component prices are rising across the board… a price increase for Samsung’s Galaxy S26 is inevitable

💠The price of Samsung Electronics’ next-generation smartphone, the Galaxy S26 series, is expected to rise compared to its predecessor. This is because the boom in the memory semiconductor market, along with successive increases in the prices of key components, is pushing up costs.

💠For the previous Galaxy S25 series, the domestic launch prices (256GB) for all models (Ultra, Plus, and base) were kept the same as the Galaxy S24. The Galaxy S25 Ultra model was priced domestically at 1,698,400 won, the Plus at 1,353,000 won, and the base model at 1,155,000 won.

💠According to industry sources on the 4th, prices for components that account for a large share of smartphone costs—including mobile APs, which serve as the smartphone’s “brain”—are all rising. According to Samsung Electronics’ semiannual report disclosed in August, prices for mobile APs, a key raw material for the DX Division, rose 12% from last year’s annual average, while camera modules rose 8%.

💠Due to the surge in demand for HBM for AI servers, production volumes of memory for ordinary smartphones have decreased, leading to supply shortages and, in turn, price increases. According to market research firms, 96Gb LPDDR5, a mobile DRAM (LPDDR), has risen more than 16% from the first quarter of this year, showing a steep uptrend. As the supply shortage persists, upward pressure on prices is expected to continue.

💠External uncertainties, such as whether smartphone tariffs will be finalized, also remain variables in Samsung’s final pricing decisions.

💠Price increases for finished products due to rising component costs are a phenomenon across the entire smartphone industry. Apple has already raised prices with the iPhone 17, and the next iPhone 18 is also widely expected to see a price increase. Chinese manufacturers are joining the price hikes as well; Xiaomi raised the price of its Redmi K90 model released in October, and Vivo and Oppo are also joining the upward trend.
