πŸš€ Japan tests reusable rocket RV-X

On July 11, Japan's space agency JAXA performed the first hop test of the reusable rocket RV-X at Noshiro. It rose 11 meters, moved 16 meters sideways, stayed stable, and landed softly in under a minute.

RV-X is 7.3 meters tall with a reinforced engine and four landing legs, developed with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. It aims to create a reusable successor to Japan's single-use H3 rocket to reduce launch costs.

The engine passed 165 static tests. Future tests will reach about 100 meters. This follows China’s recent recovery of a Long March 10B booster on a sea platform, showing faster progress in reusable rockets.

πŸ€– Claude’s behavior shifts by language and model

Anthropic analyzed 300,000 real dialogues with Claude and found its responses vary by language and model version. They identified four value axes: compliance vs caution, warmth vs strictness, depth vs brevity, and openness vs obedience.

Different Claude models lean differently. Sonnet 4.6 is warm and encouraging, Opus 4.7 is cautious and questioning, Opus 4.6 is brief and task-focused. Language also matters: Claude is softer and humorous in Hindi and Arabic, but strict and demanding in English and Russian.

πŸ€– OpenAI launches Codex Micro keyboard

OpenAI released the Codex Micro, a $230 keyboard made with Work Louder for users of its AI agent Codex. It has six large keys, each linked to a separate agent and showing status by color: blue means working, green means task done, orange means waiting for human input.

The keyboard lets users switch agents with one press or open the Codex window with two. Codex has over 8 million weekly users, many running multiple agents at once.

Managing several agents on screen is tricky, so OpenAI built this device to track their states physically. It doesn’t write code but helps users handle multiple AI agents simultaneously.

πŸ“ˆ AI Token Costs Match Engineer Salaries

Analysts at a16z found that in the top 1% of companies, spending on AI tokens per employee nearly equals the average annual salary of an engineer. This cost has grown exponentially recently, suggesting engineers could soon be 'cheaper' than AI usage by the end of the year.

AI tokens are the computational credits companies pay to run large language models and other AI services. Despite high token costs, companies heavily using AI increased their workforce by 10.2% within two years, while those spending less on AI saw almost no growth.

πŸ€– ChatGPT launches Chrome extension to rival Gemini

OpenAI released a ChatGPT extension for Chrome that reads the active tab and answers questions about its content without copying text into the chat.

The extension can summarize, translate, and respond based on the open webpage, directly competing with Google's Gemini sidebar.

Gemini still leads by handling 10 tabs at once and integrating with Gmail, Calendar, and Drive, plus Auto Browse for form filling and bookings.

The competition now focuses on which browser better understands and acts for the user, not just on chatbot intelligence.

πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ Japanese Robot Floats Like a Living Whale

Engineers at Keio University created a small white robot that silently floats in the air using a helium-filled shell. This design supports most of its weight, letting motors only steer it, which cuts energy use and noise.

The robot moves with soft flapping fins instead of propellers, making it safer and more lifelike. It can gently push, touch, or even hug, and it navigates spaces under ceilings, over furniture, and up stairs.

⭐ Japanese team detects supernova neutrino background

Physicists in Japan found a stable excess of neutrino events in nearly 5,000 days of data from the Super-Kamiokande detector, reaching 99.5% confidence. This matches the diffuse supernova neutrino background, a faint glow from billions of past supernovae.

Super-Kamiokande uses 50,000 tons of ultra-pure water and about 13,000 light sensors buried a kilometer underground to catch rare neutrino interactions.

Confirming this signal would open a new way to observe black hole and neutron star births from ancient supernovae. Final confirmation will come with the next-generation Hyper-Kamiokande detector.
