My name is Tom. I live in a large family. My father is a teacher. He teaches math in a high school. My mother is a housewife. I have one brother and one sister. Bill isn't a student. اما گذشته ساده اتفاقی است که قبل از زمان حال یعنی الان اتفاق افتاده. میتواند دور یا نزدیک باشد و زمان اتفاق قطعی و معین است مانند
دیروز...امروز صبح...دیشب...پارسال...ساعت پنج عصر دیروز...سال ۱۳۹۴...و ۲۹ ابان

افعال را در گذشته ساده به دو گروه با قاعده و بی قاعده تقسیم میکنیم. باقاعده ها در زمان گذشته ed میگیرند مانند

Walked Liked Cleaned

ولی شکل بی قاعده ها متفاوت هست و باید حفظ کنیم. البته لیست کامل انها موجود هست. مانند：
Wrote Drank Took Had

به مثالهای زیر دقت کنید：

1. I drank tea this morning.
2. My father went out an hour ago.
3. It rained last night.
4. They travelled by plane.
