Lawyer for the Crown Prosecution Service Joel Smith is addressing the court. His statement was very brief in which he restated the assurance on the death penalty. Defense lawyer Mark Summers is addressing the courts once again now. He is reflecting on how the UK courts view nationality versus citizenship. There is a legal difference between a British citizen and British national.
The defense is raising three points regarding First Amendment protections and if they would be applied in the case this involves the jurisdiction in which the acts were committed, the nature of the material published (national security) and the defendant (Assange) being a foreign national.
Defense lawyer Edward Fitzgerald addressed the judges and stated that they should allow for permission to appeal given that there are too many issues of fact that remain unanswered and too many issues at law that are being introduced for the first time by the prosecution that remain unresolved. The court is adjourned and will return in 10-15 minutes. We could not understand exactly what the judges said before the adjournment. Many of us think we heard the judges say that they will tell the court "where they are at."
Court is still adjourned, but we can all see the main court room from the video feed. The entire front row of seats is just about completely empty. That space could have been filled by us journalists who are in a separate court room reporting from a video screen.

For six month Republicans had held Zelensky back from banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Unfortunately, Kyiv’s religious repression may continue once the latest tranche of war funds have been allocated.
Ukraine is now preparing to take the final step in actually banning the largest canonical Orthodox Church, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). The radical legislation was passed in the first reading back in October 2023, but so far the Verkhovna Rada has been postponing its adoption, an atypical move for a parliament fully obedient and under the control of Zelensky.
According to sources familiar with the situation in Ukraine, the delay in banning the UOC due to one reason: Zelensky’s reluctance to take this audacious step prior to receiving the latest multi-billion dollar funding package from Washington. A shrewd maneuver as he was worried that some Congressmen from the Republican Party might block their generous allocation because of their principled position regarding religious freedoms.
