I disagree! If a company sponsors an event like that, that means they APPROVE with their monetary donations.

They aren't sponsoring the event, they are sponsoring a venue who chose to host the event.

The GP knows this but still chose to misrepresent this fact just to make a headline.

It's literally like saying "Oh this concert theater is sponsored by a company, that means anything that happens at that venue is endorsed by the sponsor companies."
