Ever feel like you waste a lot of time? Me too. Time trackers can help you get a realistic view of how much time you're spending on different activities. I decided to try a new one out today doing my preparation for the webinar tomorrow! Rather then asking what I'm doing at specific increments, Super Productivity lets you choose the tasks you're working on and time them out.
Its got break timers and even a cool 'procrastination help' page which I could see being helpful for stressful tasks.
Plus there's no accounts, no registration required, and FOSS. Love it.

Protests and Hunger Strike Take Place at Apple’s HQ, After the Company’s Censorship in China and More
Apple’s policies ensuring its comfortable presence in the Chinese market, over the years criticized on a number of occasions and from many quarters, seem to have caught up with the giant right at its own doorstep.
Local press in San Francisco report about a protest staged by Chinese activists in front of Apple headquarters in Cupertino. University of Southern California student Han Wang started his hunger strike there on Monday, joined by a number of others.
A bigger protest took place at Apple Park for December 10, United Nations Human Rights Day.
The pro-democracy activists want Apple to reverse a number of its decisions such as limiting AirDrop functionality on phones sold in China, censorship on the company’s Chinese App Store, as well as stop what they say is exploitation of workers at the Foxconn iPhone factory.
Another demand is for the US tech powerhouse to take a public stance on the plight of the Uyghur population in the mainland, which the protesters describe as persecution and mass incarceration.
The controversy around the AirDrop file sharing service arose around Apple’s decision to swiftly update the app in China to disable the functionality after ten minutes, except among iPhone contacts.
This came amid protests in China against President Xi and the rule of the Communist Party, images of which were being shared and spread using AirDrop.
Apple is yet to react to the hunger strike outside its HQ, but some of those who support it, like Vivian She, who immigrated to the US from China in the 90s and has corresponded with Wang via Telegram, say that the strict Covid lockdowns and their grueling consequences on people was what first inspired them to consider the nature of Beijing’s policies.

How They Hack Cars
@takebackourtech | SOURCE
Helping a friend pick out a car and as a result revisited one of the earliest research papers on car hacking:
http://www.autosec.org/pubs/cars-oakland2010.pdf
This hacking became possible after safety & pollution regulations starting from the late 00s, requiring the use of electronic systems and monitoring. This research paper was one of the first to show how car components could be hacked to control the engine, brakes, heating and cooling, lights, —- pretty much everything including forcing the brakes.
Today’s automobile is no mere mechanical device, but contains a myriad of computers. These computers coordinate and monitor sensors, components, the driver, and the passengers. Indeed, one recent estimate suggests that the typical luxury sedan now contains over 100 MB of binary code spread across 50–70 independent computers — Electronic Control Units (ECUs)
In the United States, the federally-mandated OnBoard Diagnostics (OBD-II) port, under the dash in virtually all modern vehicles, provides direct and standard access to internal automotive networks
Its no wonder we're now seeing brands like Mercedes charge $1,200 per year to get the most horsepower out of their electric vehicles. I'll stick to my clunker. 🚜

Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act Announced
@takebackourtech | SOURCE
A bill impacting everyone who uses cryptocurrency has been announced.
The bipartisan Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act, introduced today by Sens. Warren and Marshall, is the most direct attack on the personal freedom and privacy of cryptocurrency users and developers we’ve yet seen.
It would force anyone who helps maintain public blockchain infrastructure, either through software development or validating transactions on the network, to register as a Financial Institution (FI). As FIs, they would be obligated to:
- identify and record the personal information of every person who uses their software or sends transactions over their internet-connected computers,
- develop risk-calibrated AML programs that block persons from using their software or network throughput if they suspect those people are moving funds related to crime, and
- file reports about their users without a warrant, government request, or probable cause as the trigger.
Additionally, every FI, including traditional FIs like banks, custodial crypto FIs, and these newly classified crypto infrastructure FIs, would be banned from making any transactions involving privacy tools (e.g. Tornado Cash or similar privacy software) or privacy preserving cryptocurrencies (e.g. Zcash, Monero, etc.), irrespective of any evidence of criminality related to those transactions.

On FTX, Central Bank Digital Currencies, and the Future of Freedom
Friends,
To those who might not fully understand the implications of the FTX implosion and the calls for crypto regulation - specifically the Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act introduced by Senator Elizabeth Warren - let me attempt to enlighten you about what we are witnessing and what is at stake.
First, a brief background. I have been reporting on Bitcoin and the crypto movement since early 2012. I have also been paid in crypto for my journalism since around that same time. I have used it to buy flights and other goods, accepted it for my books and shirts, swapped one crypto for another, exchanged it in true peer-to-peer fashion in person, etc. I don't claim to be an expert but I have actually lived the crypto life and because I haven't used a bank since 2008 it has also helped me move money around without a government or a bank.
From the very beginning of my experience in the crypto space there have been two main camps: those who believe crypto could be a tool to disrupt the central banks and governments who control money, and those who believe crypto should be regulated by governments and tend to see it as more of an investment than an actual medium of exchange. This second group has been calling for regulation since the beginning.
So now with the FTX implosion - which is way too big of a topic to fully dissect in this post, but rest assured we are not seeing the whole picture yet - we are seeing renewed push for regulation, including the aforementioned Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act. This bill is extremely dangerous in terms of private crypto use. Essentially, FTX situation is being used as a way to attack private crypto use and a promotion of the need for Central Bank Digital Currencies. CBDC's are government controlled, not private, not anonymous, and include the risk of being able to be turned off or limited by governments.
This is where it's important for those who don't use or understand crypto to distinguish between non-private CBDC's and private cryptos like Monero (I know there are those who will argue Bitcoin can be private, and that may be true, but what I learned when reporting from the Silk Road trial was that they absolutely can track and find it. It's only become easier since then.)
The Central Banks and the governments HATE private use of crypto, taking place in decentralized exchanges, or peer-to-peer because they cannot track all of it. Similar to cash, when done right - and not via centralized exchanges or mainstream platforms like CashApp and Paypal - you can privately exchange and move crypto around. This will not work in the world they are trying to create.
This is why we are seeing this "never let a good crisis go to waste" moment presented to us with the FTX debacle and subsequent calls for regulation. The governments want to force crypto businesses to require Know Your Customer standards like ID, name, phone number, selfie, etc. If this happens it could spell the end of private crypto use and the beginning of only government controlled digital currency. This will eventually lead to the outlawing of cash altogether.
But there is a caveat. I said it COULD be the end of private crypto use because, like most things relating to government, it entirely depends on our compliance. If this bill or some future bill becomes law and attempts to outlaw the private exchange of cryptocurrency it 100% depends on compliance to work.
Will you stop buying, selling, or using crypto simply because the government passes a silly law? I think you know my answer. And I am hoping that there will be other individuals and businesses who have the courage to ignore the government. This is the essence of Agorism and Counter-Economics and it is the solution to avoiding their Technocratic State.
At some point you will have to refuse to comply with this slavery system if you want to remain free. Maybe crypto isn't the line in the sand for you.
