European Union Adopts Drone Strategy 2.0 to Accelerate UAV Use for Domestic Operations

The European Commission is moving to accelerate the use and diversification of UAV services across the European Union (EU) with the adoption of its Drone Strategy 2.0, which, in addition to tapping into what’s expected to be a vigorous growth area, seeks to reduce the opportunities for malevolent actors to abuse the technology.

The European Commission, which serves as the executive body of the EU introduced its Drone Strategy 2.0 during a two-day event in Brussels to promote UAV development. That Drone Days conference permits government officials, regulators, businesses, and interested members of the public to learn more about how the 27-nation bloc plans to promote emerging aerial activities in the coming years.

It also calls for synergies to be created by various kinds of commercial, private, and defense deployment. Though officials say UAVs have already performed “hundreds of thousands” of safe and productive hours of flights across the EU, the Drone Strategy 2.0 aims to accelerate that activity, especially in the following areas:

- Emergency services, mapping, imaging, inspection ,and surveillance within the applicable legal frameworks by civil drones, as well as the urgent delivery of small consignments, such as biological samples or medicines.

- Innovative Air Mobility services, such as air taxis, providing regular transport services for passengers, initially with a pilot on board, but with the ultimate aim of fully automating operations.

Huawei Phones Are Deleting Data After Covid Protests

Chinese social media users report Huawei phones automatically deleting* videos of the protests that took place in China, without notifying the owners.

*Not sure if it’s from the cloud or device level

Our sci-fi movies have not even imagined this level of dystopia…

Apple limits use of AirDrop to stop activists from spreading info.

This isn't the first time apple has bowed to the Chinese government. Back in 2019, Apple removed an app that helped Hong Kong protesters track police movements, saying it was used to target officers, after a Chinese state newspaper sharply criticized the U.S. tech giant for allowing the software.

Why are you still using their phones and computers?

Australian PM Anthony Albanese Urges Us Government to End Pursuit of Julian Assange

The Australian prime minister, Anthony Albanese, says he has personally urged the US government to end its pursuit of Wikileaks co-founder Julian Assange.

In his most in-depth comments about the diplomatically sensitive issue in months, Albanese said he had raised the Assange case “recently in meetings” with US representatives and he vowed to continue to press for it to be brought to a close.

Assange, an Australian citizen, remains in Belmarsh prison in London as he fights a US attempt to extradite him to face charges in connection with the publication of hundreds of thousands of leaked documents about the Afghanistan and Iraq wars as well as diplomatic cables.

Albanese was responding to a parliamentary question from the independent MP Monique Ryan, who said public-interest journalism was “essential to democracy” and declared that Assange’s freedom “will only come from political intervention”.

Ryan asked: “Will the government intervene to bring Mr Assange home?”

The prime minister acknowledged the case was “an issue of great interest to many Australians and of interest to people across this chamber”.

“The government will continue to act in a diplomatic way, but can I assure the member … that I have raised this personally with representatives of the United States government,” the Labor leader told parliament on Wednesday.

“My position is clear and has been made clear to the US administration – that it is time that this matter be brought to a close.”

He did not state explicitly whether he had raised it with the US president, Joe Biden, or with other US representatives such as the ambassador to Australia, Caroline Kennedy, with whom he also met recently.

Albanese’s most recent meeting with Biden was in Bali, Indonesia, two weeks ago.

This comes days after 5 major news outlets, The New York Times, The Guardian, Le Monde, DER SPIEGEL, and El País published an open-letter calling for Assange's freedom that stated “publishing is not a crime” and that it was time for the US “to end its prosecution of Julian Assange for publishing secrets.”

Wikileaks Website is Struggling to Stay Online—as Millions of Documents Disappear

WikiLeaks’ website appears to be coming apart at the seams, with more and more of the organization’s content unavailable without explanation.

WikiLeaks technical issues, which have been ongoing for months, have gotten worse in recent weeks as increasingly larger portions of its website no longer function. Even attempting to visit wikileaks.org is a gamble in itself, often producing a 502 message that indicates an error was detected on the website’s server.

When the website does become available, problems still abound. The main banner on WikiLeaks, which includes the organization’s logo as well as links to subdomains such as the “About” page, has been entirely missing since earlier this month. A similar banner at the bottom of the page, which once showed links to sites for Bitcoin and the Tor Project, is now gone as well.

A search bar that once scoured the site for information also appears to no longer work and instead redirects users to the homepage.

But the biggest issue relates to WikiLeaks’ entire purpose: Leaks.

Many of the group’s leaks have either vanished or become inaccessible to the public. Of the seven leaks highlighted on the homepage, three produce no content. Two of those redirect to error pages while the third merely sends users back to the homepage.

Some of the organization’s most prominent leaks have also been affected. A cache of more than 1 million emails from Hacking Team released in 2015, the now-defunct Italian surveillance vendor, are gone. An archive of tens of thousands of emails from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s private email are inaccessible. The Democratic National Committee emails, provided to WikiLeaks ahead of the 2016 election by Russian state entities posing as rogue hackers, are similarly missing.

Although WikiLeaks long boasted that it released more than 10 million documents in 10 years, at current, less than 3,000 documents remain accessible, according to an analysis by the Daily Dot of the website’s leaks archive. The issues have become so apparent that supporters of the group are now voicing concerns across social media.

In a post on the WikiLeaks subreddit over the weekend, one user complained that every search request made on the website produced an error message.

“The site is completely down for me,” another responded. “All I get is a ‘502 bad gateway’ error.”

In 1996 he co-founded the Cellular Phone Task Force, an organization that provides a global clearinghouse for information about wireless technology’s harmful effects, and a support network for the millions of people injured by this technology.

Arthur will be highlighting the No Cell Phone! pledge during his presentation.

13 years ago trying to rid the City of Austin of fluoride in the water.

We have it our all for years, having resolutions passed by city boards, bringing in toxicology experts, and lobbying our hearts out.

In the end, the City didnt budge. Likely because it would have put their CDC grants at risk.

This was one of the many fruitless political efforts that ultimately led me to the conclusion that politics is a fools errand and the only way to create real freedom is to EXIT AND BUILD.

Its so easy to get sold by privacy marketing these days.

For anyone who's used Brave, they have a really funny way of downplaying that they whitelist Facebook & Twitter trackers.

"We found that blocking certain third-party scripts broke many sites, so predicated on our cookie blocking and fingerprinting protection, we hardcoded some exceptions (Twitter/FB) to ensure the best possible user experience."

"Fingerprinting is not always a reliable tracking method."

This combined with their built-in Telemetry has me wondering why anyone would use it.

Telegram Spam Prevention Strategies: Slow Mode
@takebackourtech | ADVISORY

Today I noticed a Telegram spammer get banned in one of our federation groups after sending a volley of the same message. Telegram spammers often send a spray of messages hoping that the next messages aren't automatically deleted by bots and to make it harder for admins to get rid of the messages.

It occurred to me, why not just use Telegram's slow mode so messages couldn't be shotgun blasted. Although the slow mode is kind of annoying (you can't send messages one after another), even a 10 second slowdown would be reasonable at preventing spam.

Here's a gif on how to enable slow mode in your group.

Remember my duck Clover? 🦆

She would've been eaten by a fox outside my window on November 15 if I did not randomly stand up and look to see her hanging by the neck. 😓💔

After much effort, my partner and I were able to save her life. 🥰
