Blessings friends and Happy Thanksgiving!
When I find myself caught in the raging storm of life, music always bring me back to center. Part of my muse is the handpan, which I was introduced to by a friend in 2024.
Its a new type of new instrument that evolved from steel drums in the 90s, tonal notes on a metal body that can be played with your hands.
There’s a wonderful sense of depth playing a handpan, there’s more range to the sounds you can make with your hands, and the sound itself can emulate bass, drums, or keys - all truly its own.
During my trip this year to Europe I got the chance to tour the MAG Handpan workshop in Hungary.
We looked at how each Handpans gets forged over 6 months of hard work, with hundreds of hammer strikes to get the tonal fields exactly right.

Google Drops Sideloading Ban, Uses Dark UI Instead
Google quietly softened a policy many thought would fracture Android — blocking normal users from FOSS apps. The original developer-verification plan would have forced developers to hand over app IDs and signing keys to Google, making it impossible to install many privacy-focused or community apps from source.
After unanimous backlash, Google now says “developers and power users” can still install these apps — but only after jumping through hoops. Dark UI and extra steps make the process cumbersome.
Google cites an internal study about “malicious apps,” but offers no numbers, no methodology, and only one unnamed malware example. The first proposal was a prison wall; this new one is barbed wire — you can get through, but it hurts.

We’re talking about how global organizations and US dollars are rolling out the control grid in other countries, and how once your biometrics are tied to your legal ID, you’re basically in the system whether you like it or not.
We’re still in the “carrot” phase where they make it seem convenient, but that stick phase is coming.
