⚡️🇺🇸🇾🇪 Washington Institute: The Houthi campaign in the Red Sea is posing a major threat to US military logistics, severely impacting Washington’s ability to rapidly deploy forces. Around 80% of US defence supplies move by commercial sea routes, which are now under constant threat from missile and drone attacks.

Even ships under armed escort have been targeted, forcing the US to reroute cargo around the Cape of Good Hope, adding over two weeks and around $1 million in additional costs per shipment.

Air transport remains a fallback option but cannot match the volume of sea freight and is significantly more expensive. As a result, US planners are exploring land-based alternatives, including trucking supplies from Saudi ports like Jeddah.

The disruption is forcing a strategic reassessment of military mobility, as Yemen’s actions challenge Washington’s global force posture and logistical assumptions.
