Sulaymaniah, Iraq - In 1991, the Kurds were urged to rise up against the regime of Saddam Hussein, only to be abandoned when priorities changed. No one came to our defense when the regime deployed helicopter gunships and tanks to crush the uprising. Those memories remain vivid and etched in our minds. Today, we commemorate that chapter as "Raparin" and we do not forget what it taught us.

More recently, we saw what happened in Northeast Syria, or Rojava. After all the promises that were made, after Syria's Kurds stood on the front lines of the war against ISIS, we witnessed how they were treated.

Today, the Kurds of Iraq have finally tasted a measure of stability and dignity in life. Because of this, it is very difficult, indeed impossible, for Kurds to accept being treated as pawns by the world's superpowers.

The experiences are there. The empty promises are there. Too often, the Kurds are remembered only when their strength or sacrifice is needed. For that reason, I appeal to all sides involved in this conflict. Leave the Kurds alone. We are not guns for hire.

We are not looking for a way out of the war, but we will close all exit routes for the enemy.

The infrastructure, equipment, and weapons of the Revolutionary Guard were not damaged, contrary to Washington's claims.

We are ready to show our strength against any evil force, and let them not forget this in Iran.

This terrorist act they committed, along with all other dirty factors, is a clear example of ingratitude.

As soon as the recent events took place, we sent them a message and expressed our condolences.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs spoke with his counterpart on my instructions, and I personally went to their embassy to offer condolences—although no other head of state had done so.

To disregard this, to trample it down, and to behave like base, ungrateful people brings honor to no one.

Those dishonorable people who committed this terrorist act against us will regret it. Let them not test our strength.

I should also state that this morning I was informed that the Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran called Baku requesting Azerbaijan’s help to evacuate the employees of the Iranian embassy who remained in Lebanon, because they do not have the capability.

This was reported to me and I immediately gave instructions to provide assistance and send a plane.

They even said they were ready to pay for it, but I said it was not necessary. If we do not provide assistance in difficult times, then when should we provide assistance?

Yet in return for all this, striking Nakhchivan in such a dirty, cowardly and unmanly way — this stain will never be erased from their dirty and ugly image.

Media outlets controlled by Iranian state bodies conducted a dirty slander campaign against Azerbaijan in order to smear our country and influence the views of our compatriots living in Iran.

They know very well that today the independent state of Azerbaijan is a source of hope for many Azerbaijanis living in Iran.

Therefore, smearing us, slandering us, and discrediting us before the Iranian public served this purpose, even though there was no basis for it.

Zelensky has to get on the ball, and he has to get a deal done.

I think Putin is ready to make a deal.
