It's a combination of factors, you know, fiscal terms, the amount that the take that goes to the local government is always a big factor in which countries you invest to go produce oil and gas.
Dispute resolution. If things go wrong, how is that going to be resolved? You know, security of ownership, security of agreement, ownership of the assets.
The things that need to be done in Venezuela, they're the same things that need to be done in any other oil and gas producing region around the world.
I think the legislation that was passed quite rapidly, I think you can see as a gesture of improvement already, very early on in this new relationship between the U.S. and Venezuela.

PDVSA was a highly professional, technically competent oil and gas company 30 years ago, and it hasn't been one for quite some time. So of course, that'll be a subject of dialogue.
That's in America's best interest, that's in Venezuela's best interest to have professional competent management of PDVSA.
So, you know, we're early on in this situation, but certainly enhancing and professionalising and proving the quality of PDVSA, absolutely on the agenda.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright: Yes. Here's another case where it isn't about oil per se. It's President Trump desiring to bring an end to conflicts and bring peace to the world. He has a broader toolset than traditional politicians.
President Trump is doing these out-of-the-box ideas. We're going to stop the large buyers or impede the ability of large buyers to buy Russian oil.
What is India doing right now? It's looking to buy more oil from the United States, probably going to buy more oil from Venezuela and from other sources around the world. One way to help end the war in Ukraine is to starve the Russian war machine.

These people, when they lose elections, they incite madness and want to drag the rest of the people into it. This country wants peace and tranquility.
The Public Prosecutor's Office, making use of a functioning justice system, determined that you violated the measures regarding which that decision was made, and a request was made for revocation before the court, and that works, doesn't it? Thatโs how it is.
What happens is that there are people who think they are untouchable, and they're not. They're not; they think they're untouchable.
It's about justice working; let justice work.

Massie: That was an interesting experience. What I saw that bothered me were the names of at least six men that have been redacted that are likely incriminated by their inclusion in these files. It took some digging to find them.
Khanna: We discussed that. I mean, there are six men, some of them with their photographs that have been redacted. And there's no explanation why those people were redacted.

Some of these files have been taken down, the DOJ produced them, and for some reason they took them down.
Maybe they decided that victims' names were in there and that they needed further redactions. But those documents not only haven't been put back up on the site with the appropriate redactions, they were not available to us to search.
As far as I could tell, we couldn't search the documents that had been taken off the Internet.

Massie: I probably should do that from the floor or in a committee hearing.
Khanna: They should be releasing these documents. We have many avenues where we can compel that legally. Maybe they've done it out of oversight. I don't know. I don't believe that. But, you know, they should be releasing those documents and our hope is to get them to do that.

What we're after is the men who Jeffrey Epstein trafficked women to. We want those names published.
We're not out to embarrass people, and the problem is we went in there hoping to see that in 302 forms.
What we found out is those 302 forms were redacted before they got to the DOJ. So, but our legislation directs the FBI, which is the agency that produced those 302 forms, to also produce these documents.
The Attorney General is ultimately responsible for that production, so that's why we're here at the DOJ to view these files, but there needs to be more information given in those 302s.
So I was disappointed we didn't find that. But it's also clear, just sort of as a check, checking their homework, that they need to do a little more homework. There are six men.
We went in there for two hours. There's millions of files. And in a couple of hours, we found six men whose names have been redacted who are implicated in the way that the files are presented.

Massie: They need to do a little more work. We'll see her at the Judiciary Committee here in a couple days.
Khanna: At the very least, these six men maybe she can make public, and then we're happy to provide the information to them, and they should do that.
Our biggest concern is what was redacted before it even came to the Justice Department.

Reporter: Are these men US citizens? What fields do they work in? Is it finance? Is it political?
Massie: At least one is a US citizen. At least one is a foreigner. And the other three or four have names... I'm not sure if they're foreign or US.
Reporter: In which field do they work in? Is it finance, banking, political?
Massie: One is pretty high up in a foreign government.
Khanna: One of the others is a pretty prominent individual. But I think that the point is that these six are just what we found in two hours of a review of the files that aren't redacted.
The broader issue is why so many of the files they're getting are redacted in the first place.
I don't blame the assistant US attorneys reviewing it. If they're reviewing redacted material, what are they supposed to do? But they're getting, it seems like, material that's already been redacted.

I believe that [Commerce Secretary] Lutnick, at the very least, needs to be brought before Congress.
I think, based on the evidence, he should be out of the cabinet.
Look at how much influence he had with Epstein, and he wasn't transparent about it.
