There was just an election in Moldova, where the Russians tried to influence things. Thankfully, it went well. Then there was Georgia, where things are going backwards.

All of the Balkans — there too, the Russians are trying to influence things in Serbia. So you really have to take it very, very seriously.

That is what we're doing, and because we take it seriously and are strengthening our defenses, I think people should remain calm about it.

We are rearming, and all of NATO is rearming, and the U.S. hasn't withdrawn.

One of the reasons we're now increasing our defense budgets is to keep the Americans in Europe.

If you take the Nordic countries, then we're just as big as Russia economically if you add us together.

They have a huge number of losses, a huge number of losses. Some say they've had one million dead and wounded. The difference is, it's a closed society.

If you look back to when the Soviet Union was in Afghanistan, I think they lost seventy thousand people. They eventually pulled out because they couldn't handle it back home—mothers of the dead started demonstrating and so on.

Putin is keeping Russia in an iron grip, and when they mobilize a Russian army, it's not in Moscow and Saint Petersburg; it's far out in the countryside, prisoners and all sorts of others.

They have North Korea to help them and so on, and the free press has been crushed, and the dissidents too, so it's a closed society.

If it hadn't been a closed society, then the war would have stopped, because then there would have been too much resistance from the population.

They actually spend more money on their defense than they do on anything else.

We have the strength to stand up to it, so I think we should take it seriously, but we shouldn't be scared.
