The breach, which occurred earlier this month, resulted in unauthorized access to some workstations and unclassified documents.

The attackers exploited vulnerabilities in a third-party cybersecurity service provider, gaining initial access. However, there is no current evidence suggesting ongoing access to the Treasury's systems.

The Treasury Department was alerted by the cybersecurity firm BeyondTrust and has since coordinated with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and law enforcement to evaluate the breach's impact and bolster system defenses.
