🇫🇮🇪🇪🚨 NEW: Estlink 2 between Estonia and Finland has been disconnected this afternoon!

At 12:26 p.m. on Wednesday, Estlink 2, the direct current power link connecting Estonia and Finland's electricity grids, experienced a fault and was taken offline.

The cause of the outage is still under investigation, according to Estonian transmission system operator (TSO) Elering. Both Elering and Finnish TSO Fingrid are working to identify and resolve the issue promptly.

Elering assured that Estonia's electricity supply remains secure. If necessary, reserve capacities in the region will be utilized to compensate for the power loss through Thursday. If the issue persists beyond that, other regional production facilities will step in to replace EstLink 2 starting Friday.

🇫🇮🇪🇪🇨🇳🚨 NEW: The Xin Xin Tiang, a Hong Kong-registered vessel, crossed the EstLink 2 area around noon today and is suspected of cutting the cable.

—> Observers noted that its speed decreased while in the vicinity of the undersea cable.

The Xin Xin Tiang is a sister ship to the NewNew Polar, the vessel implicated in the 2023 destruction of the Balticconnector undersea gas pipeline.

🇺🇸❗️ Unprovoked Christmas attack at Grand Central Terminal!

At approximately 10:15 PM, a 28-year-old suspect reportedly slashed a 42-year-old man’s wrist during an argument on a northbound platform. Shortly afterward, he targeted a 26-year-old woman near a turnstile, cutting her neck before trying to escape via an escalator.

Thanks to witnesses, police swiftly detained the suspect, who was found with a knife and has a prior criminal record, including charges for fare evasion, criminal mischief, and assaulting an officer.

Both victims were transported to the hospital and are in stable condition. Charges against the suspect are pending.
