A Lufthansa flight captain refused to land in Israel on Thursday amid rising tensions between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah.

The flight, scheduled to land at Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv from Munich, Germany, was diverted after the captain cited that his crew was not prepared to fly to Israel. The flight instead landed at Larnaca Airport in the Greek Cypriot Administration.

Initially, the airline informed passengers that the diversion was due to "technical reasons" and that a decision would be made later regarding whether the flight would continue to Tel Aviv. After some time on the ground, it was announced that the plane would return to Germany.

Lufthansa has not yet commented on the report.

Blinken has called for the release of those detained for peaceful participation and emphasized the need for a smooth transition of power.
