Saddened to hear the news of the passing of the noble sage and shaykh, Hazrat Mahmud Effendi (may Allah have mercy upon him!). A student of the great Ottoman and author of the commentary on the Majalla (al-Durar al-Hukkam), Ali Haydar, and somebody who brought about tremendous khayr to an uncountable number of people. May Allah Most High elevate his rank, beautify his station, and enter him into the highest meadows of Paradise, amin! al-Fatiha.

"In 1952, he met Ahıskalı Ali Haydar Efendi, a Naqshbandi sheikh who became his murshid. Ali Haydar Efendi appointed him as the imam of the İsmailağa Mosque in 1954. In 1960 he became the leader of the tariqa upon his mentor’s death." Accordingly, he assumed leadership of this branch of the Naqshabandi order aged 31!

Shaykh Hasan Hito’s desk whilst he writes his 160 volume encyclopedia on Shafi’i fiqh. Incredible. It’s as if he is from the past… who does this? Masha’Allah, this is what supreme mastery looks like, and it is only possible when you hold yourself to a madhhab. May Allah give him tawfiq!

(اسعَ جهدَكَ في تحقيق درسك من كل مصدر، واهتمَّ بالتفكير في أحسن طريق في إيصال تحقيقك إلى أذهان الطلبة قدرَ اهتمامِكَ بتحقيق الدرس؛ لأن صوغ الإلقاء في قالب متزنٍ مستساغٍ عليه مدارُ استفادة الطلبة كما يجب.

ثمَّ لا تُبالِ بكثرة الطلبة أو قلَّتها أصلًا؛ لأن بركة نشر العلم تحصل بالقليل إذا شاء الله سبحانه، وربما لا يحصل أي نشر للعلم من الجماعة الكثيرة إذا لم يبارك الله في علومهم؛ إذ إن بركة العلم إلى الله سبحانه.

وإنما عليك السعي في العلم جُهدَ الطاقة مع الإخلاص، وما سوى ذلك ليس إليك).
