Volume-level, whole brain, mean E-field magnitude outcome measure per modality. On the left, the boxplots for TMS indicate that the larger 70 mm figure- eight TMS coil induces the highest E-field magnitude. On the right, the boxplots for tES indicate that conventional and bilateral tES induce substantially higher mean E-field magnitudes than 4 × 1 tES. Overall, the mean E-field magnitudes are higher when targeting C3 compared to F3.

Effects of transcranial direct current stimulation on dual-task performance in older and young adults: A systematic review and meta-analysis; Usman 2024

tDCS improves dual-task (DT) performance.
tDCS reduced DT cost on gait speed in older adults.
tDCS improved DT postural sway velocity in older adults.
tDCS reduced DT cost on postural sway velocity and area in OA
No significant difference between active and sham tDCS on outcomes in young adults

Does non-invasive brain stimulation improve spatiotemporal gait parameters in people with multiple sclerosis? A systematic review and meta-analysis
de Souza Fonseca 2024

tDCS applied by multiple session and combined with motor rehabilitation (i.e., aerobic and/or resistance training) can improve stride length in PwMS.

1) tDCS over motor cortex associated with aerobic or resistance exercise can improve stride length in patients with MS
2) tDCS intervention was more effective when applied by multiple sessions

Effectiveness of transcranial direct current stimulation on #balance and# gait in patients with #MultipleSclerosis: #SystematicReview and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials
Nombela-Cabrera 2023

tDCS improves functional gait capacity in patients with MS with a low quality of evidence but not static balance with a very low quality of evidence. Similarly, there were no significant differences between stimulation in the #M1 or #cerebellum. Further studies with parameter #standardization and #individualization of application are needed to increase the success of tDCS therapy.

Transcranial direct current stimulation for #fatigue in neurological conditions: A systematic scoping review
Jagadish 2024

This review will provide insight into the stimulation location that is most frequently used to effectively alleviate fatigue for a range of neurological conditions. Given its substantial benefit in fatigue re-covery, additional primary research may be done to strengthen the current evidence and allow for more appropriate recommendations to be made regarding incorporating tDCS as a treatment for efficient fatigue reduction.

Effects of non-invasive brain stimulation in #MultipleSclerosis: systematic review and meta-analysis
Kan 2022

Anodal tDCS of bilateral #S1 or left #DLPFC can significantly reduce #fatigue in patients with MS. Importantly, tDCS relieves fatigue in low physical disability but not high physical disability MS. Furthermore, rTMS relieves MS-associated spasticity and tDCS improves MS-associated #CognitiveFunction, but tDCS has no effects on MS-associated #mood and #pain. No conclusion can be made regarding motor function effects of NIBS due to the variety of protocols. Open questions pertain to the longevity of effects, the differential outcomes following different stimulation intensities and whether specific subtypes of MS benefit more from stimulation treatments than others.

Non-invasive brain stimulation on clinical symptoms in #MultipleSclerosis patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Uygur-Kucukseymen 2023

This meta-analysis demonstrated a favorable effect of tDCS on #fatigue, #pain, and #psychiatric symptoms, as well as a favorable effect of TMS on fatigue and #spasticity. These findings support the idea that NIBS could be a promising alternative symptomatic therapy for patients with #MS.
