Hello everyone I hope everyone is doing well. In the recent light of events I've got quite a few DMs asking about the security situation of Jammu Division maybe because many of you know that I am a native of the state.
Keeping this in view I have decided to explain this situation on this channel even though I never intended to do so since I made this channel for sharing imagery and writeups related to India's Special Operations Forces.

Many of my friends and family have served and are serving in various capacities throughout the security infra deployed in J&K, the person whom I consider my best friend also belongs to one of the places that is currently facing the brunt of this proxy war waged by pakistan. My next few writeups will try to cover the situation.

So please give me some time, I'll try to end as much confusion as I can.

The revival of terrorism in Jammu div. : A desprate attempt by pakistan

Since early-mid 2021 you have been hearing about ambushes, attacks on multiple armed forces, police, capf personnel and in many cases unarmed civilians in Jammu division's Western districts which has now seemingly penetrated into the eastern and more rugged Chenab Valley and Upper reaches of udhampur-kathua bordering himachal pradesh and punjab. Is this something new ? Nope. Are their strategies any different from what it used to be ? Not very much. Are they managing to find chinks in the armour of our security grid ? Well that's pakistan's whole point of existence.

Let us examine this problem in depth :-

For starters, the names of these tanzeems i.e PAFF, KT, TRF, HM, Jaish, lashkar etc are nothing but a facade in today's time. These are the same group of terrorists who have infiltrated over the past few years, their PR agencies decide which so called tanzeem will take the responsibility of this attack. It's a part of psychological warfare and you, the people of India are their main target. Lets take an example here. If an attack takes place in low lying foothills of western pir panjals on army/police, the responsibility will be taken by PAFF. If the same happens in chenab valley, an advertisment claiming that an infilated number of troops have been KIA'd will be under the garb of Kashmir Tigers. Either of these will be written in typical Kashmiri style english.

Ok so now we cover basic tactics. Let's start from infiltration.

Here's a personal observation I request everyone to not take it as face value.

You might think that this is some post-2021 phenomena that these guys came in and start ruling all while seemingly taking zero casualties. You are wrong. This new project has been in full swing since the later years of last decade based somewhat on the lines of Operation Gibraltar but in Jammu Division (I'll share some news bytes and articles). Initial batches weren't armed. They were there to take care of building a strong and reliant network of moles and intelligence with multiple redundancies since local support might not be reliable because the local political landscape of their chosen hotspots are very variable. The thing that works in Rajouri will never ever work in Doda, same can be said for Jammu's Kandi region.

During the early phases of this seemingly new revival of militancy started. The infiltrators were using trucks to get as many armed FTs and warlike stores of weaponary to safe havens in outer reaches of The Kashmir Valley. However this turned out to be disatrous for the org running this operation as multiple attempts were thwarted.

But as always, they found a small window to infiltrate from.

The IB (samba-hiranagar sector) during elections and yatra time have less manpower since BSF has to be there in key locations for Area Domination purposes. As a result they started exploiting their age old technique of utilizing underground tunnels and sometimes the risky method of crossing the wire over-ground.

There are multiple underground tunnels in the area and BSF alongwith state police is purpotedly working overtime to demolish as many as they can.

Now further route they take is the good ole' Hiranagar - Basantgarh - Dudu Valley - Seoj dhar - upper reaches of Bhaderwah or They take a turn from basantgarh to Bani then chattergala to gundoh bhalesa bordering himachal.

For the ones infiltrating from LC in poonch take the route of Poonch - Gool Gulabgarh - Assar Baggar - Doda
Or Rajouri - Mahore - Reasi one.

Infiltration at LC is difficult due to constant vigil by the army and bsf but there are geographical limitations that can't be mitigated using stop-gap methods at once.

Alright people, I am almost done writing this thing. Just a few final touches here and there -

Ok so here's the summary on the basic tactics that are being used by the current lot of terrorists in J&K -

DISCLAIMER - THIS IS MY PERSONAL OBSERVATION, GROUND REALITY MIGHT BE FAR FAR DIFFERENT

Goal - Hit & Run, minimize casualties, play it dirty

Composition of groups -

Depending upon the complexity and goal of the operation, the squad can comprise of anything from buddy-pairs to 4 man mobile teams with multiple snipers and support weapons in static position along with OGWs/Assets in place for maximum situational awareness during ops where they want to inflict heavy damage. FT (Foreign Terrorists) many of which are from PoK and served Pak Army/Establishment in various capacities are the main muscle as of now. Local Liason is provided by OGWs w/ LT (Local Terrorists)

Presence of SSG and ISI's paramillitary group/SAD (comprising of ex-SSG) is also mentioned quite often. These people are most likely involved in various capacities like - BAT Teams, Specialist weapon support, Infrastructural support by aiding in weapons training, handling the C2(Cmd and Ctrl) of multiple teams of FTs (Foreign Terrorists - pakistanis almost exclusively). In areas farther from LoC/IB, the number of SSG operators is less due to obvious reasons (not true for some places in south kashmir).

Weaponry -
Currently, the weapons in use are mostly Type-56 AK with steel core bullets and DAK made AR15 pattern rifles with 556x45mm AP rounds. The terrorists mostly utilize these m4-style rifles' p-rails to mount Thermal Imagers or sometimes powered optics (when being used as a marksman rifle).

Additionally, unconventional weaponary "might" come into use in near future for more specific hits. Various low-vis weapons are in use with certain FTs and their Operational Cmdrs. These include - Steyr AUG, Mp5 SD from SSG/Pak Army weapon surplus.


Depending upon the complexity of an operation they may carry handgrenades and even secondary firearm (mostly a pistol) too.

Communications -
The cadre doing major operations that require heavy-firepower uses Chinese Two-way UHF handheld sets with multiple repeater stations in place for intra and inter squad communications role. UHF Band is a very crowded place which makes Sigint a slightly more intensive task. The perpetrators usually have a strict radio discipline while carrying out these operations.

Multiple News Outlets and OSINT groups reports have also suggested presence of Satcom terminals (nothing new about this as they were used back in early 2000s too) and LoRa modules, these methods are used for enabling multiple pathways of sending data (audio/video + text and position) to their handlers sitting on the other side of the fence. This topic deserves a seperate thread of its own which I'll compile later on.

Allocation of the above material is highly AO specific and depends upon multiple parameters that include distance from Lc, logistics, presence of security forces in the region, amount of real-time and static int, geography etc.
