i've had a friend who has crazy potential and really, REALLY good art. i know this as her table-mate and ex-classmate for 2 years, i've seen her stuff and all :] i still believe they're all heavily underappreciated

but this isn't about that! she was in a media-related cca for the last 4 years in sec sch, and has been putting in good effort into it

she got into the course she wanted (though i can't remember which one and which school was it)

her portfolio was created on carrd.co! she gave me and a few friends a look and it was so neat and aesthetic! so, yes, websites are allowed as portfolios!!

she showcased her works, not just limited to drawings but stuff she's coded etc etc!!
most people do their portfolio on powerpoint/google slides! which is totally okay

if you're looking into a course that is irrelevant to coding, aesthetics, film, arts, then maybe a website isn't a good fit but it doesn't mean i'm discouraging you from creating one. it's just to say it'll be a teeny bit hard since as much as aesthetics play a part of attracting schools, skills and passions are where they are most needed. so it might be difficult to pull it off!

however, it'll definitely be more interesting than your usual slides so it may be good to give it a go! :]

preparing portfolios is very important despite having yet to be selected, this is to ensure you at least put it together beforehand without panicking and half-a**ing it at the last minute!
okay now i'm really going to bed

what if i have 0 achievements or certificates to show? (cr)
it's okay, it's not necessary or compulsory! it is good to display such accomplishments but it's bad to dump irrelevant ones or fake certificates

edusave and bursary awards however can be put into your 1000-character writeup instead of the other 3 600-character writeups!

how should i write my writeup? (cr) — tip
go to the respective poly website and see the course you are interested in! understand the introduction to the course, to know what they are going to teach and what you can do in the future. using their introduction, spot their key words! like for example, keywords in business-related courses are "entrepreneurship, digital marketing, e-commerce" etc
USE those keywords in your write up, they are looking for these when reading your eae writeups!

keep writing and ignore the word count first! after typing, slowly cut your character count down and improve. (kind of like paraphrasing!)

hello everyone! this will be today's topic:

concept of skinny-shaming and why it's just as bad as fat-shaming (video)
i actually personally FEEL a lot about this video and topic, because i, myself have been skinny-shamed throughout my whole life :"] this isn't to put those with the opposite problem down, but to rather understand and realise that no matter how anyone looks, someone will still have something to comment about their appearance!

eae tips for those who are panicking for eae LOLLL

1. read the eae manual on the eae portal (eae.polytechnic.edu.sg)

super important coz some of you don’t even know where and when to submit… read the manual and understand the whole process of logging in etc

you have a limited time to send your applications on the site itself, 30 mins i think! if you don’t submit within 30 mins they’ll kick you out of the site which brings me to my next point

2. write your write-ups beforehand!!

get it checked, marked, rewritten and everything that needs to be done before you submit your applications. my first draft had to be rewritten so many damn times because 1) they’ll look out for certain keywords (your write-ups are scanned and processed by machines) that they want in a potential student. cramp in all your SPECIFIC achievements, leadership roles etc. don’t be so general

make sure you know that there are two different types of eae write-ups to be done
600 character write-up: mainly on achievements related to course
1000 character write-up: general achievements you’ve done for the school during your 4/5 years in sec school.

there is a difference between characters and words so do check that your write-up is roughly a short paragraph and not a whole essay

3. prepare all your certificates early in case you get shortlisted for interview

if you have the time to, start on your portfolios now. no guarantee that you’ll be shortlisted for an interview but it’s better than rushing (i rushed my portfolio and cried last year it was so stressful..)

go to the specific polytechnic sites to see whether they have guides on portfolios

what happens when you get shortlisted?
you’ll be emailed within 2 weeks after closure of applications if i’m not wrong! (mid july) just go ask around if people got their interview emails LOLL just in case you also dk when they’ll email you

prepare for interview! research on question types, and if your school gave you materials for eae use it well. some schools will give sample questions so look through those questions well

some courses WILL require you to take an aplitude test consisting of questions related to the course. usually it’s math/science related based on what i heard! pls for the sake of your future do not forget when your aplitude test is conducted. it’s important for the eae and if you don’t go for the test say your eae spot bye bye

what happens when you get offered a course?
if you successfully get offered a course, you’ll be sent an email in september. log in to your eae account and accept the offer (or reject if you want). then… study well for o’s!

all the best my friends MAY WE ALL GET INTO THE COURSE OF CHOICE
