💢 Trump admits Maduro has been nothing but agreeable, and has offered 'everything'.

On October 17th, during Zelensky's visit, a journalist asked Trump about Maduro and Venezuela. As is typical we have to cut through the bravado and the posturing, and look straight at the literal meaning of what was communicated by Trump.

Journalist: Maduro has offered everything in his country, all of the natural resources. He even recorded a message in English offering mediation

Trump: Yes, he has offered everything ... (bravado/noise edited out)

The tone and language interferes with most people's ability to pull out the actual text and its direct statement. Also ignore (or take interest!) in the journalist's 'question' 'what should we do to stop that?' Which is weird.

Listen to this clip with that in mind.

Consider the cost/benefit of a US confrontation with Venezuela, the reputational damage to the US and the Trump administration, the upward and immediate disruption and spike in oil prices, and its negative impact on the US economy. We are talking a 10%-20% spike immediately. Consider the loss of US air assets due to Venezuela's advanced anti-air systems.

Venezuela has the world's largest oil reserves, and there is no reason not to make a deal. The most important things are that the US both appears, and is, agreement capable. For Trump and the US, the most important thing is that Maduro is, and remains - as admitted - agreement capable.
