Copilot retention splits from Teams as Purview adds memory coverage

Microsoft is separating Copilot interactions from Teams retention policies and adding Purview retention support for Copilot memory. That means tenants with older policies covering both Teams chats and Copilot prompts and responses will need a dedicated policy for “Microsoft Copilot experiences.” The interaction-policy change is scheduled to roll out from late October through mid-November 2026.

HTTP2Shell patches now cover .NET, PowerShell and more—but bundled Brotli copies remain a risk

Brotli is a data-compression format that web software uses to shrink data for faster transfer and decompress it when received. A critical flaw in Google’s Brotli decoder can corrupt memory and potentially enable remote code execution in software that decompresses attacker-controlled data. Microsoft released fixes for.NET, Visual Studio, and PowerShell on October 25, extending the patch effort beyond Node.js and Python. Updating a system-wide Brotli library may not fix applications that bundle their own decoder.

PHP rebuilds Windows packages to fix critical Brotli flaw

PHP has rebuilt its official Windows packages for versions 8.2 through 8.5 to fix CVE-2026-111497, a critical flaw in the bundled Brotli compression library. The risk is especially relevant to applications using Guzzle with its default cURL settings, which can enable the vulnerable automatic decompression. The updated packages retain last week’s PHP2Shell fixes and include Brotli 1.2.1.

GPT-6.1 Terra halves API prices and speeds up computer tasks

OpenAI has launched GPT-6.1 Terra, a model for visual reasoning, desktop computer use, writing, and coding, through ChatGPT Work, Codex, and its API. API prices are 50% lower than GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol, while OpenAI says Terra completes some computer-use tasks more than three times faster than its higher-end models. It also reports a sharp drop in factual errors compared with the previous Terra model.

Trash talking Ubuntu’s inconsistent bin label

Every operating systems needs somewhere to put deleted files you no longer need, but allow you to rummage through it to find something you wanted to keep. If you’re a Brit using Ubuntu, the name of that place varies based on where you’re looking. It seems Ubuntu’s UK English translation team don’t agree on what to call a bin. The dock hover label says Trash. It opens a Rubbish Bin in the file manager, and that has an action bar button to Empty Wastebasket… And that’s before you start right-clicking things. Right-click on a file in the tr… Er, file […]

Firefox 159 released with Wayland Linux fixes

Firefox 159 is out, with a fresh set of improvements and some Linux-specific fixes. Now that Mozilla’s browser hews to a faster release cadence, with two releases a month rather than one, some changelogs may look minor on their own, as they’re smaller, if more frequent slices. So what’s changed? Searching through your open tabs is a smidgen easier. A keyboard shortcut was added to activate the tab search filter. The feature itself isn’t new (it could be activated in other ways), but adding a memorable shortcut helps. On Windows or Linux, press ctrl + shift + a to trigger […]

📰 AI Helping To Improve Linux's AMD Zen CPU Microarchitecture Detection

A request for comments (RFC) was sent out last night on the Linux kernel mailing list in seeking to clean-up the AMD Zen microarchitecture detection within the kernel. This is for enhancing the kernel where there are code paths specific to a certain generation of AMD Zen processors or select generations such as Zen 3 through Zen 5 CPUs. AI was leveraged in helping to clean-up this AMD Zen code in the Linux kernel...
