Reset Windows 11 password: Microsoft account, local account, Utilman trick

If you are locked out of a Windows 11 PC, the correct reset method depends on the account type. A Microsoft account password can be reset online, while a local account password can be reset from the sign-in screen, from a second administrator account, or offline in the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). As a last resort, the Utilman trick replaces the Accessibility utility on the logon screen with a command prompt. This guide walks you through all three approaches and their limitations.
