Microsoft has stopped updates and automatic installations for the Microsoft 365 Calendar, People, and Files companion apps ahead of their permanent retirement on December 16, 2026. Microsoft has released Windows Admin Center version 2610 as a public preview. The headline change is a combined installer that covers both Administration Mode (aMode) and Virtualization Mode (vMode). The preview also adds Azure Arc onboarding, backup and restore, and certificate lifecycle management to vMode, plus a redesigned Azure registration experience. At the same time, Microsoft removed the preview VM Conversion tool for VMware migrations because of a change at Broadcom.

Another package went missing from Ubuntu 26.04 LTS’s minimal cloud images, this time xxd , a CLI tool for viewing files as hexadecimals. It’s the second time this has happened, following the accidental removal of curl I reported on in August. Both packages vanished for the same reason. When Canonical dropped its pollinate tool, which had been used to generate ‘randomness’ during boot, it altered the image’s dependency chain and packages that relied on it, quietly disappeared along with it.
