‍CERN переводит более 2200 систем управления ускорителями с RHEL-семейства на Debian 13

30 августа на MiniDebConf Winterthur 2026 инженеры CERN Федерико Вага и Никос Ципинакис представили доклад «Controlling CERN’s Accelerators with Debian», посвящённый переводу компьютеров системы управления ускорительным комплексом с дистрибутивов семейства Red Hat на Debian. Согласно опубликованным CERN материалам, до конца 2026 года Debian 13 должен быть установлен более чем на 2200 промышленных компьютерах и встраиваемых системах. 1 сентября это отдельно подтвердила Debian Publicity Team.
При этом речь не идёт о полном отказе CERN от RHEL или AlmaLinux. В начале презентации авторы специально вынесли на отдельные слайды фразы «WE WILL NOT TALK ABOUT DATA CENTERS» и «WE WILL NOT TALK ABOUT EXPERIMENTS»: миграция касается прежде всего Front-End Computers (FEC), непосредственно управляющих оборудованием ускорителей. В документации Linux @ CERN RHEL и AlmaLinux по-прежнему перечислены среди поддерживаемых систем, а для AlmaLinux 9 и 10 продолжает поддерживаться интеграция с инфраструктурой CERN. Таким образом, заголовки о полном «прощании с Red Hat и IBM» несколько преувеличивают масштаб изменений.

Firmware updates on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS have gotten smaller, as Canonical has backported the split Linux firmware packages it introduced in 26.04. To make the change in noble, the linux-fimrware package is now a meta-package that pulls in all of the individual firmware packages. Functionally, nothing changes; all installs get the full whack. The binary blobs the distro use are now split across 18 vendor-specific sub-packages: Some non-default firmware was already available to install as a sub packages, e.g., linux-firmware-xilinx-vcu, so those don’t change (but aren’t looped in to the new metapackage). KB5120998 bugs now linked to non-English Windows 11 installations

Microsoft has narrowed the mouse-personalization bug in Windows 11 preview update KB5120998 to non-English installations and confirmed that the same release can erase desktop background settings. The update had already been reported to reset custom cursors and wallpapers, but Microsoft now says affected systems cannot reload those settings even when users manually restore them.
